Best Blu-ray player £100-£150, Awards 2013. Thanks to the great picture and awesome sound quality, Sony's BDP-S5100 is a top budget buy

Nothing of note

If the BDP-S5100 is any indication of what’s to come, 2013 could be a bumper year for Sony’s Blu-ray players. This has all the hallmarks of a class-leading machine.

Sony Blu-ray player makes decent alternative to streaming boxes

The Sony BDP-S5100 3D Blu-ray Disc Player with Super Wi-Fi offers a wealth of services and very good image quality for the money.

The ; is a compact powerhouse with a wide variety of streaming services; image quality is mostly excellent, even with streaming content; good upscaling of DVDs.

The disk drawer seems flimsy; DLNA streaming isn't as slick as you get from some competitors; 3:2 pull-down performance isn't as smooth as on the Panasonic BDT230; Super Wi-Fi didn't provide better streaming in our tests; no analog outputs.

The Sony BDP-S5100 Blu-ray player offers a wealth of services and very good image quality for the money.

Easy to install and use. Lower ranking on the sound quality because a good quality sound device is needed. If connected only to the TV the sound is similar to the one from normal TV. Very good image quality
