Affordable Systems Reviews: Yamaha BD-S1065 Blu-ray Player, RX-V2065 Receiver, and Phase Technology Speaker System

Welcome to the second of Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity System Reviews, where we choose a complete home theater setup and evaluate it for continuity, system synergy and to take some of the guesswork out of buying a complete home theater...

This system is not cheap, nor does it compromise in very many areas. This system uses a top of the line receiver and soundbar. A system could be better, but not using only a receiver and a soundbar (plus sub and surrounds). I would say this is almost a...

Yamaha BD-S1065 Blu-ray Player

The BD-S1065 is one of Yamaha's most recent Blu-ray models (the other being the BD-S1900), and is also the least expensive model in their lineup. It is not a universal player, instead focusing simply on Blu-ray. Let's see how it performed.

Yamaha BD-S 1065

Excellent picture for films., Analogue, 7.1-channel output., BD-Live., HD-audio output as PCM and bitstream.

Extremely weak DVD de-interlacing., Quiet but clearly audible fan noise., Slow disc drive., Measly multimedia features.

Yamaha BD-S1065 Blu-ray Player Review

Right at the core of the $500-600 price point, Yamaha BD-S1065 Blu-ray player enters against some stiff high-end competition. It's a sect currently dominated by Oppo's BDP-83, a jackknife player that does just about anything needed. Yamaha's unit,...

Yamaha BD-S1065 Blu-ray Player Reviewed

One of two new Yamaha Blu-ray players, the BD-S1065 ($599.95) is a Profile 2.0 player with BD-Live and BonusView support. This model offers multichannel analog audio outputs but lacks WiFi-readiness and streaming video-on-demand service....

The BD-S1065 supports 1080p/24 playback of Blu-ray discs ; The player has internal Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding and can pass these formats in bitstream form over HDMI. It has multichannel analog audio outputs for use with older A/V...

The player lacks internal memory, so you must add your own USB storage device ; It doesn't support wireless connectivity to your home network ; The BD-S1065 doesn't support MP3 or WMA playback, nor does it provide access to any Web-based...

Purely from a Blu-ray standpoint, the BD-S1065 has the most desirable features to suit any A/V setup--such as 1080p/24 output, BD-Live, and HD audio decoding with multichannel analog outputs--and would be a logical fit for anyone who owns a Yamaha...
