Canon MV960

The sub $1000 camcorder market is still primarily the domain of Mini DV tapes. While a few manufacturers have managed to bring out well priced DVD vid...

Slim frame, good quality video, big zoom, increased battery capacity

Computer kit only transfers images, light not powerful enough, still pictures of poor quality

Good video quality with a price premium over similar Canon models for greater battery capacity and analogue inputs.

Canon ZR700 review

Canon ZR700

Wide-screen LCD; excellent color quality in outdoor settings; easy-to-use controls; built-in lens cover; supports analog-to-digital conversions; plenty of manual controls; accepts add-on lenses and filters; low price.

No accessory shoe or microphone input; bottom-loading tape compartment; grainy, low-resolution still photos; not enough stabilization at maximum zoom; poor low-light performance.

Canon's latest entry-level camcorder, the ZR700, is easy to use, affordable, and ideal for wide-screen moviemaking, but low-light performance remains a problem.

Canon MV960

Canon's latest entry-level camcorder is easy to use, affordable, and ideal for wide-screen moviemaking, but low-light performance remains a problem.

Wide-screen LCD ; Excellent colour quality in outdoor settings ; Easy-to-use controls ; Built-in lens cover ; Supports analog-to-digital conversions ; Plenty of manual controls ; Accepts add-on lenses and filters ; Low price

No accessory shoe or microphone input ; Bottom-loading tape compartment ; Grainy, low-resolution still photos ; Not enough stabilisation at maximum zoom ; Poor low-light performance

These complaints aside, most home moviemakers will find the Canon MV960's video quality perfectly acceptable. And price-conscious shoppers are sure to love its many features and small size.
