JVC Everio GZ-MG555

JVC Everio GZ-MG555

The JVC Everio GZ-MG555 hard-drive camcorder has lots of useful controls and takes decent still photos; its neutral-density filter can be handy when shooting in bright light.

Sluggish focus; expensive.

The JVC Everio GZ-MG555 hard-drive camcorder offers lots of control over your videos--and its photos look nice--but its steep price has us reaching for the Pause button.

JVC GZ-MG555 30GB Hard Drive Camcorder (10x Opt, 300x Dig, 2.7

A very well designed 30GB hard-drive camcorder, the Everio GZ-MG555 ($900 as of April 24, 2007) feels solid and comfortably accommodates one-handed operation. A sturdy dial provides access to manual settings and scene modes for various lighting...

JVC GZ-MG555 Camcorder Review

The specs of the JVC Everio GZ-MG555 give the impression of a mighty camcorder. On the outside, JVC has packed on a host of manual controls, smartly placed and easily accessed. On the inside, the 1/2.5" CCD is among the largest in the consumer market....

The HDD camcorder market has two prominent players, JVC and Sony. For a time, JVC had the space all to themselves, but failed to create the ideal Everio model that found that magic point where performance, price, and features all meet. Before they knew...

Hard Disk Camcorder Review: JVC Everio GZ-MG555

The GZ-MG555 is the flagship standard-definition camcorder model from JVC's innovative Everio family, which eliminates the use of tapes altogether. Titled as a hybrid, the Everio uses SD flash memory cards and a built-in 30GB hard drive to capture your...

The GZ-MG555 is JVC's top standard definition Everio hard disk drive (HDD) this year. While the rest of the Everio line may lag behind in video quality, its top-end model usually manages to pull through with great performance and useful features. The...

Expert review by : David Kender (

JVC switched gears from last year, opting for a large single CCD, rather than the three 1/4.5" CCDs in the GZ-MG505. This year's top-end model offers one 1/2.5" CCD, the largest imager in a consumer camcorder. This resulted in an increased pixel count...

JVC GZ-MG555 Digital Camcorder 10X Optical Zoom 300X Digital Zoom 1/2.5" CCD 2.7" 112K

I really like everything about the camera. The UI is great, and all of the features on the camera are wonderful. I think it has great color, and I read reviews that the image stabilization was not very good, but I thought that it was very nice.

THE SOFTWARE! I was afraid of this, but the software is bad. It is CyberLink software that you must use to retrieve footage from the camera. I was hoping that I would have the ability to plug the camera into the computer and it would show up as an...

Decent camera

If you cannot hear sound or you get an error while trying to watch your videos in windows media player, download windows media player classic. This will give you the codecs that will allow the videos to play correctly.

The hard drive makes this very useful for extended recordings. Don't have to worry about changing recordable media. I think that it takes decent still shots. (While using a tripod)

If you are buying this camera, get a tripod. As others have pointed out, the anti-shake feature is not the greatest. I also hate the file structure that JVC uses, but there are ways around that

JVC GZ-MG555 1/2.5" CCD 2.7" 112K LCD 10X Optical Zoom HDD/Flash Memory Camcorder

read other compaints elsewhere about JVC's use of the *.mod files for recording, but it plays fine on the computer with enclosed software and Nero Showtime both with audio. Windows media player won't play sound. New Egg rocks! Built last 3 computers...

Burns to DVDs easily, looks very good so far. Still playing with the settings to find the best for the different lighting situations. All in all not a High Def, but fairly close to dvd quality to my eyes. (on a new Sanyo 42" LCD)

Yes I wish the Anti Vibration feature worked better, following my 2 Year old grandaughter around and the video almost looks comical but kinda adds a little charm to it
