JVC HD Everio GZ-VX815BEK

A small camcorder with big camcorder quality

Excellent image quality ; Extensive WiFi features ; Stylish, compact chassis

Manual lens cover closing ; Almost no discrete control buttons ; Manual settings in full menu only

JVC's bizarre animation effects are available, too, and you can also decorate people's faces with graphical glasses, stamp your footage with a graphic, add an animated handwriting effect, or superimpose the date and time.

JVC Everio GZ-VX815 review

You already have a hi-def video recorder on your phone already, so why do you need a camcorder? Because you'll end up with better footage, for one thing. If size has put you off using a camcorder, the JVC's compact form might win you over.

Lots of creative features, Smart image stabilisation

Interlaced footage not ideal for monitors, Some compacts beat it for video quality

JVC Everio GZ-VX815

A big sensor upgrade in the VX815 does little to fix the VX700's biggest failings.

While it suffers from cheap construction and a needlessly complicated interface crippled by a poor-quality touchscreen, the JVC GZ-VX815 actually produces pretty good video. It's just a shame that you can't really see it at its best without playing it...
