It has the look of a DVD camcorder, but don't let that fool you. The JVC GR-D230 is really a MiniDV camcorder made to fit comfortably in one hand. At a retail price of $799.95, the GR-D230 delivers an aesthetically appealing design, decent image...

JVC GR-D230 Camcorder Review - JVC MiniDV Camcorders

With an MSRP of US $799.95, the JVC GR-D230 is equipped with 10x optical zoom and 500x digital zoom with a 1/4" CCD and a 2.5-inch diagonally measured LCD screen. This camcorder performs decently in low light situations, especially considering its...

JVC GR-D230

At first glance the JVC GR-D230 looks very much like one of the DVD-R/RW cameras. But it's the stylish design and disc like LCD screen that leads you astray and it is in fact another of the Mini DV tape cameras with the cassette cleverly concealed.

As well as USB it also has DV (IEEE 1394), S-Video and AV outputs allowing you to not just copy your footage to PC for burning to DVD, but to video and DVD recorders through your television. While compact the GR-D230 at 550 grams was equal heaviest...

Excellent

Having purchased it from Harvey & Norman for just over $1200.00, it has never given any problems and would without a doubt hold strong appeal to many novice camcorder users. Very good operating system as it allows immediate capturing upon opening LCD...

Easy to operate and experienced no problems capturing to Windows Media player or Roxio DVD suite.

For the money, and given number of options for a fairly tidy unit, the only thing I dislike about it is like many other camcorders, is the battery life. But hey, for general filming of special moments and events, no need to complain too much.

OK

Until I can capture and edit the video footage, it is really not of much use to me. I paid AUD60 for the JVC USB Driver disk. How can I get Windows to recognise it for capturing purposes? Email: wayzan@lizzy.com.au

It suits my purposes just fine. The video footage is excellent. I look forward to having a long filming relationship with it. Being able to film close up is a real bonus.

My PC (XP Home) refuses to recognise the camcorder and will not let me capture the footage, yet it will download stills from the memory card. Windows keeps saying an error occurred during installation. I tried the suggestions about 16-bit and 800x600,...
