Panasonic HM-TA20 Pocket camcorder review

The Panasonic HM-TA20 pocket camcorder is an ideal on-the-go video recording device that's waterproof, shockproof and dustproof, but a little heavy to boot...

Solid build ; Good quality footage

Heavy ; Locking system is frustrating

The Flip pocket camcorder may be dead, but its legacy lives on in rival products

Waterproof ; Shockproof ; Good video quality ; Good size ; Funky design

No optical zoom ; Video wobble issues

Despite the fact that Cisco recently killed off its Flip line of camcorders, other manufacturers are keeping the point-and-shoot video camera legacy alive.

Panasonic HM-TA20 underwater camcorder

Review Pocket camcorders might have lost their appeal since the spread of HD-ready smartphones but the amphibious nature of the Panasonic HM-TA20 is still likely to grab the attention of holidaymakers. The HM-TA20 is an underwater pocket camcorder...

The Panasonic HM-TA20 is far from faultless and suffers from a chunky design and poorly implemented software. Still, if you have kids, are into water sports or just need a survive-all camcorder to take on holiday with you, it can be a reliable...

Panasonic HM-TA20 review: Panasonic HM-TA20

Panasonic HM-TA20

The ; has a comfortable, rugged design, easy operation, and just enough features to keep it competitive.

For a rugged minicamcorder, the TA20's screen and lens are largely unprotected. It has a narrow lens, and there's no 720/60p resolution option.

As rugged minicamcorders go, the Panasonic HM-TA20 is very good and definitely deserves consideration.

Panasonic HM-TA20Camcorder Review

The HM-TA20 is Panasonic's newest attempt at a waterproof ultracompact camcorder. The model did a decent job in our performance tests, but it didn't handle all that well and it was surprisingly difficult to use. The camcorder is available in blue or...

Panasonic's slim new shooter misses target

When Cisco killed off its industry-leading Flip in April, it created a vacancy for a new chief in the cheap, pocket-sized camcorder space, and Panasonic hopes to fill it with the HM-TA20.

The ’00 HM-TA20 possesses some noble virtues, particularly its ability to take a lickin’ and keep on tickin,’ but it’s not the heir apparent to the Flip. If it’s possible for the category of cheap, pocket-sized camcorders to survive in an era in which...

Panasonic HM-TA20

Decent performance, but didn't handle all that well and was surprisingly difficult to use

Good color results; Solid low light performance

Not the best sharpness; Motion had issues as well

It’s hard to come clean with our true feelings about the Panasonic HM-TA20. We love its rugged, adventuresome design, but we can’t say it is any better than the other waterproof camcorders we’ve tested—particularly the Kodak PlaySport series. In fact,...
