Panasonic NV-GS300

Panasonic's consumer camcorders are unique in the market because they possess the more advanced 3CCD technology as standard. This means it has three image sensors (one each for Red, Blue and Green) as opposed to the single chip you find on most...

Top-loading camera ; 3CCD - excellent quality even in low light ; good zoom control ; high-resolution stills ; connects effortlessly to iMovie and iPhoto

Not true widescreen ; manual focus is appalling ; low-light options give poor quality ; no FireWire cable ; image stabiliser doesn't appear to do much ; no controls for lefthanders

For the consumer market, this camera is excellent. It even has features some compact pro camcorders lack. It has a good optical and 3CCD recording system and image quality for both video and stills is high. It's pleasant to use when left on automatic,...

Panasonic NV-GS300

Offering superb video quality under a wide variety of lighting conditions, the Panasonic PV-GS300 is an excellent choice if you typically shoot in automatic mode. Prosumers may find the limited choice and the awkward accessibility of the manual...

Excellent video quality ; Impressive low-light performance ; Effective image stabilisation

Relatively few manual settings ; Awkward joystick control

If you have a good eye for video but a bad time with technology, then the Panasonic NV-GS300 will deliver exactly what you want: great video quality with minimum fuss. But if you like to tweak and experiment even occasionally, don't go here.

Product Specifications

Panasonic NVGS300 MiniDV Ecam comes fully equipped with 3CCD and O.I.S. technologies for enhanced quality movies and still images. The camera's CCD (Charge-Coupled Device) plays a critical role in picture quality. That's why Panasonic chose a 3CCD camera system - the type used in professional video cameras. Panasonics 3CCD system reduces noise by 30%, gains horizontal resolution in colors by 50% and dynamic range to express luminous gradation by 30% to render greater beauty in color, detail, and gradation. The O.I.S. helps assure clear, beautiful pictures by compensating for any handshake that occurs as you shoot. Gyrosensors detect the amount and direction of handshake and a linear motor adjust the lenses as needed to compensate. While electric system correct the handshake in the CCD image itself, the optical process takes place before the CCD imaging stage and so, there is virtually no effect on image quality. Leica lens is renowned by photographers world-wide as a maker of superb cameras and lenses. Now this legendary optical technology fuses with Panasonics advanced digital technology in the Leica Dicomar Lens. At the brain of the camera is Panasonics original Crystal Engine, advanced system that processes the R, G and B signals from three CCDs individually to remove noise and improve color-processing accuracy. The Crystal Engine is the best image processing LSI for the 3CCD recording and is incorporated in every high-end model that carries 3CCD.
