Sony DCR-TRV130 Camcorder Review - Sony Digital8 Camcorders

The Sony DCR-TRV130 is a Digital8 camcorder, rounding out the bottom of Sony's Digital8 line. The camcorder has an MSRP of $599 and a street price around $400. It has many features but lacks playback of Hi8 and 8mm tapes. It lacks features for the...

Digital on the cheap

In 2002, why would anyone buy an analog camcorder? While they are a bit cheaper than digital, the price gap is rapidly shrinking. This Sony is an excellent choice for someone who wants an affordable digital camcorder.

Excellent picture and sound quality. Very easy to use

Bulky. B/W viewfinder. No separate charger

Sony DCR-TRV130

Unlike some of the other reviews, I would like to comment on the things I find annoying about this camcorder.

Cheapest sony digital camera, easy to use, still has many options for the lowest line

No software included for computer, no cables to connect to computer

Good Quality Digital Camera

The Sony DCR-TRV130 is an attractive camera that is very simple to use. I have owned an older Sony HI8 camera and loved the features of it. The similarities between them swayed my decision to buy the TRV130.

High definition, ease of use, crystal clear optics, great optical zoom, night vision

Eats tapes quickly, no macro, difficult manual focus, not backwards compatible w/ analog tapes

Sony cuts corners

I was very disappointed when I first got the 130. I thought *all* Digital 8s were backwards-compatible to analog 8mm tapes of which I had several year's worth. Previous incarnations of Sony's 1xx series were compatible with analog, but now you have...

Easy to use ; good video quality

Bulky for its size ; NOT backwards-compatible with analog 8mm

could be smaller ; manual focus is inconvinient ; viewfinder is not adjustable for short sighted

Great camera

I am a first time camcorder user and have wanted to buy a Sony for a long time. To me, two things are utmost important of a camcorder, picture quality and simple sturdy design. Let me get this straight first, TRV130 actually shoots much better pictures...

Picture quality, price

A little bit big
