Sony HDR-SR10

Most camcorder buyers treat the phrase 'high definition' like some high-tech gospel to be fanatically revered. After all, if it has 'HD' slapped on th...

1920x1080i high-definition video, additional memory stick slot for hybrid recording, performed above average in low light conditions, shares most of the same features as its premium-priced siblings

Its rivals in the entry-level HD space are significantly cheaper

While slightly overpriced for an entry-level HD camcorder, the HDR-SR10 offers a variety of innovative features for the asking price. Those with beefier wallets, however, would probably be better off with one of its deluxe stable mates.

Sony Handycam HDR-SR10

The SR10 offers a good balance between value and quality in the emerging consumer HD video space.

Excellent quality video ; Facial recognition works very well ; Decent shooting capacity ; Can shoot to HDD or Memory Stick

Average microphone ; Tilted design a little wearing on the hands

On a pure quality front, the SR10 represents quite a fair balance for the asking price. Just make sure you pick one up beforehand and make sure it's a good fit for your preferred style of shooting.

Sony Handy-cam HDR-SR10E

Compact handycam with full HD ideal for amateur or professional situations.

On/off record button can be awkward - it is possible to press "on" to record and find it has not actually switched on! Seems to be designed for small fingers! Best check is to ensure that standby changes to record in the lcd screen. A good tip is to...

Very good image quality, very sturdy, good value for money.

Wide angle way too narrow to be used comfortably in house Menus are not very intuitive and I can get lost in them looking for settings Exporting/importing videos can be tedious.

Sony Handy-cam HDR-SR10E

It can focus on daylight as well as night. It did focus on fireworks at the distant. I have got two of these camcorders.

I filmed firework display and it had trouble focusing on some of fireworks. I did set it as fireworks. I think I got to close. I also could not down load my videos on my computer, which is running on Windows XP.
