Apple 21.5-inch iMac (Mid-2014) reviews

Apple sells three versions of its 21.5-inch all-in-one desktop iMac, differentiated by processor speed, hard drive capacity and graphics card. Here we speed test the Mid-2014 iMacs and look at which is best for you.

The 21.5-inch iMac is a beautiful all-in-one desktop Mac, starting at a reasonable £899. For that price you get a Mac that is fine for everyday tasks but a little slow for more labour-intensive jobs like editing photos and videos, but it’s still...

1.4GHz 21.5-inch iMac reviewed: the cheaper iMac isn't such a good deal at £899

Apple has updated its iMac for 2014 with a new entry-level model at a new low price, but has the company made too many tradeoffs to get the price down?

New low cost model costs £899 ; gorgeous design

Apple has made power tradeoffs for the lower price ; big jump up to next model in the range ; RAM not upgradeable

The new entry-level iMac is interesting because it means the whole iMac range now starts at £899, £250 less than the entry-level for 2013's range. If you are buying based on price, this is a good price for an iMac, however, it's not the best low-cost...

Apple iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2014) with Fusion Drive review

This summer's new iMac is the most affordable ever made at just £899. But what do you get for that money, and is there any benefit upgrading to the £1,099 version with its clever Fusion Drive?

New low price ; Same great design and build

899 model with HDD feels and performs slowly ; True price of comfortable usability is £1099

The new 21.5-inch budget Apple iMac is every bit as good in its quality of design and standard of build as the more expensive quad-core iMac range. To reach the lower price, economies are made primarily in the processor and storage configurations. And...

Apple 21.5-inch iMac reviews

Apple's all-in-one iMac starts at £899 but you might want to spend a little more to find the best iMac for you.

Apple iMac 21.5-inch (2014) review

Apple's reduced-price iMac is a fine system for students and families whose computing needs are light and who prioritize style over performance.

Apple has always demanded a premium for its hardware, and even after a $200 price drop, that hasn’t changed. Any number of cheaper Windows machines will outperform Apple’s equivalent. For instance, the offers a larger 23.8-inch 1080p screen, an Intel...

Apple iMac 21.5-Inch (2014)

Apple's entry-level 21.5-inch Mac is a solid, basic OS X-equipped all-in-one. It's priced like a midrange desktop, however, and the competition is tough at that level.

Least expensive iMac. Same display and chassis as higher-end Mac desktop models. Two Thunderbolt ports and four USB 3.0 ports. Thin construction and design.

Configuration options limited to storage. System effectively sealed. RAM is not upgradeable. Target display mode only supports Thunderbolt.

The entry-level Apple iMac 21.5-inch is a good starting point for the budding Apple fan or a person who wants a desktop base station for their iOS devices. It's easy to set up, powerful enough for basic tasks plus a bit more, and comes with an...

Price cut for the 21-inch iMac makes it a mainstream machine

A new, mostly frills-free configuration brings the price of this all-in-one down, but requires performance concessions.

The new entry level 21.5-inch Apple iMac is now only $100 more than the (already discounted) 13-inch Macbook Air. The display, design, and build quality remain top-notch, and it includes high-end features such as Thunderbolt, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and...

This lower-cost model has a small hard drive and laptop-like CPU and graphics performance compared to the more-expensive iMac configurations. It lacks even basic user upgradability.

While it includes some performance and graphics concessions on the lowest priced model, the 21.5-inch iMac brings Apple's iconic design and top-notch bundled accessories and software to a wider audience.

Price cut for the 21-inch iMac makes it a mainstream machine

Few desktop PCs cause much excitement anymore, outside of a handful of bulky systems for gaming enthusiasts or small home theater set-top boxes. Beyond that, we mostly see all-in-one desktops with PC components packed behind a large screen. Apple's...
