Darn Near Perfect

I don't usually write reviews but this box deserves praise.

Perfect size, incredibly quiet, 800MHZ memory bus, SATA built-in ; I use this as a linux development machine and it's faster for database work than a 4-CPU Xeon server with a RAID-5 arrary that I deploy to. I run a P4 with HT on, a Seagate SATA disc...

There's a problem with linux on this where if you boot with a disc in the DVD drive (a pioneer in this case) linux will kernel panic. Redhat is working on this - in the meantime don't boot with a disc in the drive. This could be an issue if you're...

Asus Pundit-R (AB-P 2800) Review (update)

The current BIOS appears to read the Celeron D as a Pentium 4 and sets the default speed of the CPU fan too fast (about 500 RPM). There is an beta BIOS on the Asus website that might fix the problem and make the system real quite but I haven't tried it...

This is an update to my last review of this item. Do not order the 90 degree cables from Egghead. The Orion Pro are not . . . I repeat not compatible with the Asua Pundit -R. The orientation is backwards. It is 180 degrees off. If you use a rounded IDE...

The supplied cable for the SATA drive is orientated in the wrong direction making the fit less than what is expected

Asus Pundit-R (AB-P 2800) Review

I am A+ Certified and have been building white boxes for about 17 years. This is a great little box. Benchmarked with Sandra Lite (2005 SP2) and passed all tests within specifications. Cool, quiet, and well made. You will need to purchase SATA cable...

I purchased one of these months ago to build a system for a friend on a budget, I ordered everything from new egg and it booted up flawlessly on the first try. I havnt had any problems with heat but I am not putting real real high end equipment in it,...

Awesome Barebone!!!

This is the best bang for the buck. What more can you ask for? Extremely compact case, motherboard with builtin ATI graphics card with DVI-D out, sound card with optical out, PCMCIA slot for laptop peripherals, memory card reader, USB 2.0, and...

Good System, but could have been better

This is a nice little system if you can overlook some of the inherent design problems it has. It's sleek and stylish, and the fan is very quiet when the CPU is not overloaded. If you're using it for a PVR like I am, it looks great in your living room. ...

4 for the price, 3 overall

The good: o Integrated audio and video are great -- especially enjoy the svideo and spdif out. o Size - it's not a "book" but it's pretty small. I like the CD door. Smart. The bad: o It's designed to stand on edge, and putting it flat is not really an...

Great Machine!

This barebone is a great choice for HCPC applications. It has Toslink audio options on it, which is a great addition to the motherboard. I added a Intel Celeron D 320 Prescott 533MHz FSB Socket 478 Processor, 250 Gig drive, Corsair Memory (1-Gig) and...

Good PVR case but...

The only complaints I have w/ the Pundit-R is adding cards to the PCI riser. In order for me to install 2 hauppauge 150mce cards you need to bend the side of the case a bit in order for the cards to drop in place. No biggie for me but some might not...

compact and quiet

I am very happy with the system and so is my client. Installed a 2.4ghz p4 and 1GB of mushkin pc3200, 80GB WD hdd. System runs fast cool and quiet. I installed a pci slot fan for additional airflow as it is being used in a auto shop. Cd drive had to be...
