Asus P2-P5945G review

Asus's P2-P5945G is a slim barebones system that would be suitable for building an office PC. Despite the slim case, it uses a standard desktop processor and there's room inside for two half-height PCI cards, but there's no PCI Express.

Nice for a low-cost machine.

Make sure you have a 4-pin-to-SATA convertor (one is included but you'll need another) and an extra SATA cable on hand if you intend to have a SATA optical drive and hard drive. Also, be reasonable. DON'T try to put a Phenom on this thing! It's only...

It's easy to take apart and it's a very compact case, albeit a bit cramped. I'm not using it as an HTPC build but it would work great in that role. The included heatsink is pretty nice, it's like the AMD stock heatsink but with a copper slug in the...

Memory is sort of hard to install due to the cramped interior, but taking the fan bracket off makes this easier. The case exterior is pretty hard to re-attach, so you'll need to apply some force ; The PCI riser card doesn't have a PCIe x16 slot on it,...

Not really 8gb of RAM max 4gb

To utilize 5.1 channel sound in my stereo reciever I bought a sound blaster card that has an optical out to hook it up. The odd thing about the setup is that the sound will go out for a couple of seconds and come back every twenty minutes or so. A...

The MOBO HDMI is an awesome feature.

No one makes the single sided ram that this motherboard requires to fully utilize the 8gb of ram. When I contacted ASUS they sent me a link to a bunch of Ram manufacturers. I know how to google so it was useless information. Recontacted them again,...

ASUS support stinks

Worth the money. Would've given it 5-eggs, but the ASUS support still has me mad. ;-)

Arrived incredibly fast. Lots of extras and everything works.

Everything basically needed to be unplugged and my 533 ram didn't work and/or with the Gig stick of 667. Unplugged and stripped to a Gig of ram and a HD finally got me past the ASUS welcome screen and into BIOS and BIOS POST … took over 48 hours (yes,...

Nice

Not a complaint but just a mention that my unit went heywire with random beeps in-between a windows xp fresh install and chipset/audio drivers. Not a single beep since.

Wow is all I can say. Simply put, i am picky/critical as sh__t, but i don't have a single complaint over this unit. Physical installation took about 8-10 minutes, another 10-15 minutes for a windows installation, and maybe 15 more minutes tweaking...

Absolutely none

Great HTPC on the cheap

The drivers it comes with are all outdated. Download the new ones from Nvidia and Asus.

Easy setup and config

PSU seemed a little soft to me. I replaced it w/ a TT 430w I had lying around

Works great for me!

I bought this as an inexpensive replacement for my old Pentium 4 that was dying. It's performed very well so far!

Very simple to build; it had enough connections for my needs. It was up and running very quickly- no problems! Has plenty of USB connections

Only 1 SATA power connection

4 gig RAM AMD 5400 2.8 GHZ processor 1 TB Western Digital Green Drive wirless lan WINTV elite tv tuner

Inexpensive and great for mederate build. Motherboard with HDMI, and 4 dimm slots expandable to 8 gig is great. Case is nice, and again is perfect for a moderate build

The 5 in 1 card reader will cause a BIOS error when initially setting up, you must unplug it and contact ASUS for tech support. Why install it when it doesnt work properly out of the box

Great for media system

I have always liked ASUS products. Built this as a media PC for a friend. Blu-ray works nice with the HDMI output, decent video, and small enough to wedge behind the entertainment center or flat panel LCD. It is hard to work inside the case because it...

HDMI, small form factor, quiet, cost
