Dell XPS 730x gaming PC

Dell's behemoth XPS 730x gaming PC is overkill. Two video cards, water cooling, a mammoth processor, 6GB of RAM and a garish full tower case combine t...

Massively overpowered, water cooling cuts down on noise, well-constructed case

Enormous, prohibitively expensive, water cooling isn't particularly quiet, no eSATA on front panel

Dell's behemoth XPS 730x gaming PC is overkill. Two video cards, water cooling, a mammoth processor, 6GB of RAM and a garish full tower case combine to make a machine that will handle any recent game thrown at it, and its performance was excellent...

Dell XPS 730

A mean machine, but a little lean in the graphics department

4GB RAM, quad-core CPU, fast performance, SLI graphics, room for expansion, quiet, Blu-ray player

Could use faster graphics card options, consumes 66W of electricity even when it's shut down, could use more comprehensive RAID configuration options

Big, bold and perhaps beautiful to some, the XPS 730 is a heavy-duty machine with plenty of heart. It could use faster graphics card options, but its twin-8800GTs should do a reasonable job of satisfying most gaming urges.

Dell XPS 730 H2C review: Dell XPS 730 H2C

Dell XPS 730 H2C

First Dell that ships with overclocked CPU and RAM; supports both CrossFire and SLI multi-graphics card configurations; well-designed hard-drive bays; useful software utilities with no clutterware.

Poor bang-for-the-buck, even for a high-end gaming PC; limited memory upgrade until 64-bit Vista becomes an option.

Dell's updated flagship gaming desktop incorporates the latest hardware from Intel, Nvidia, and AMD into a system that delivers some very impressive gaming scores. We'd give it a higher recommendation if it wasn't so expensive compared with systems...

Dell XPS 730 H2C

The behemoth Dell XPS 730 H2C updates the model, but has some issues with 3D games.

Good gaming performance. Cleaner design lines than its predecessor's. More ATX-standard parts. Quiet. Sealed liquid-cooling system. Intelligent use of lights. Can play Crysis (1,280-by-1,024 resolution). Space for upgrades.

Even dual-GPU graphics cards can't help with anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering at the highest resolutions. Big and heavy. No hard switch for reset or power.

There's also space for another hard drive in the case, in addition to the dual 160GB Raptors (in a RAID 0 array) and 1TB data drive that my review unit came with. The system can also accommodate another pair of DDR3 DIMMs (the system came configured...

Dell XPS 730x H2C Intel Core i7 Gaming System

We evaluated the original Dell XPS 730 in early May, shortly after its initial release. At the time, it was Dell's latest high-end gaming machine and the word on the street was that it would be the last to carry the XPS badge. Moving forward, Dell was...

Excellent Chassis Design ; Looks Great ; Killer Performance ; Upgradeable and future-proof ; Hybrid Liquid Cooling ; Factory Overclocked Processors (Covered by Warranty) ; Top-end Components ; Theater Lighting ; Neat LED Light Systems and Side-Panel...

The XPS 730x H2C performed very well in our suite of performance benchmarks. Judging from our results, it is clear that the update to Core i7 provides a considerable performance advantage over the older Core 2-based offerings. In all of the CPU...

Dell XPS 730x Review and Ratings

Dell's Core i7-powered XPS 730x offers performance and features that will appeal to every gamer, but at a price that might give some pause.

Very good performance ; Attractive design ; Nice gamer-friendly features

Expensive compared to similarly equipped Core i7 systems

New Zealand PC World Magazine > Dell XPS 730

XPS is Dell's performance brand targeted at gamers and power users. Only recently made available in New Zealand, XPS has been carrying the performance flag for Dell in overseas markets for sometime now. Ironically, XPS desktops arrive on our shores...

An Intel Q9450 Core 2 Quad CPU running at 2.66GHz, backed up by 2GB of RAM and a single Nvidia 8800GT video card provide the bulk of the processing power in the XPS 730. This pushed it to an excellent score of 112 in our WorldBench 6 real-world...
