Gateway FX6840-03E review: Gateway FX6840-03E

Gateway FX6840-03E

Useful front-panel hard-drive access; strong application performance.

Gamer-oriented case not for everyone; lacks gaming performance to back up its looks; weak connectivity with only 5.1 audio and no FireWire or eSATA jacks.

The unique-looking Gateway FX6840-03e offers respectable productivity speed, but it's relatively limited in gaming and multimedia, which is ironic considering its flashy appearance. Gateway's FX line offers some strong configurations, but this isn't...

Gateway FX6840-01e

The Gateway FX6840-01e handles multimedia tasks with aplomb but its graphics performance is less than stellar.

Solid productivity and multimedia performance. Spacious hard drive. Two-year warranty.

So-so graphics performance. No Blu-ray drive. Bloatware.

Gateway FX 6840-01e Desktop Gaming System

The Gateway FX 6480-01e is certainly a capable system with its Intel Core i7-860 processor, 8GB of memory and 1TB hard drive, but simply put, it's not a good gaming system.Starting with the exterior, the FX is one of the few manufactured PCs that I...

VERY HAPPY

I bought this rig to basically surf the internet and play wow, I am very happy with this purchase and my expectations were exceeded (especially about how quiet it is!).

VERY FAST, boots in approximately 45 seconds ; VERY QUIET, practically whispers compared to my last cyberpower PC ; Runs wow on ultra easily (and still whispers) ; Sleek design ; Comes with free microsoft works at least (Office and Norton are only 60...

No blu-ray player compared to HP of same price range ; Keyboard and mouse are very basic (replaced them with a logitech G15 and Razer mouse after 2 days of use)

Happy

I replaced my previous gaming rig that I had for the past 5 years - another Gateway. It had served me well and lived through several large upgrades, but it was finally time to take the leap and get a new box ; Fast, Fast, Fast ; Lots of USB ports along...

Would have liked a little more RAM ; Way too much third party software to uninstall ; Sparse to non-existant documentation

Good for the price

I purchased this (form Micro Center) under some duress as our DELL XP Desktop had a catastrophic motherboard failure and we were left hanging. Basically I didn't get to do as much pre-purchase research as possible. That being said, my most unhappy bit...

For the price, the FX6840 is a really nice box. If you want a reasonably powerful box to take home and run get one

Wanted to add a second DVD drive from my stash of parts and found the the second bay was "sealed" off at the front. It can be done but with more effort than needed. No IDE support. Not a big deal but when I called tech support to ask about this they...

Fast, quiet and shiny

Five stars at this price - I'm very happy with it. Newegg price was below msrp, with free 3-day UPS. No brainer as lazy man's replacement for an aging custom built box.

Fast. very quiet - can't even tell it's on. data transfer from portable drive was very fast. easy setup. minimal bloatware. shiny, solid box. installed WoW first. it runs on ultra 1440x900 flawlessly. busy areas of Dalaran dip below 30fps occasionally...

Big box, not for everyone's taste. front panel slider for drive inserts seems a bit loose. DVD drive was disconnected on arrival, so had to open up and connect it. Minor annoyance

Almost great

In general I'm still pretty happy. I probably would have replace any keyboard that came with the unit because I like split keyboards anyway.

LOVE the computer. Looks cool, fast as hell, easy to set up, lots of USB's and expansive room. A lot of computer for the money. I just looked at the specs of the 25 and that looks great too. A good buy and newEgg got it to me in four days. Awesome....

Nothing is perfect. The keyboard and the mouse are practically throw aways. Corded, cheap pieces of junk. I will be getting a new wireless set soon. Sad additions to such a great computer. Up the price $25 dollars and add a better k/m and this is a 5...

Great so far!

If you're into 3D gaming of any type this is definately a good PC. The 8gb RAM, processor, and video card can handle any game on the market and then some.

Simple setup and very high performance out of the box. Runs games on all highest graphic settings without issues. A very sleek designed tower for those looking for aesthitics. Very little preloaded trial software to delete

None so far. Wish it had wireless network adapter, but not really a con since most desktops do not come equipped with wireless
