AMD Phenom X4

A smartly engineered processor, but for today's applications it's lacking in bang per buck.

Even if you need a multicore system, the Phenom doesn't distinguish itself. Intel's quad-core parts may be less elegantly engineered, but they compensate with larger data caches and faster clock speeds. The Core 2 Quad Q6600 outran the Phenom 9600 by...

Thrice the fun A review of the triple-core AMD Phenom X3

AMD has been talking a triple-core game for months, but the performance results weren't available until last week, when the chipmaker took the wraps off its Phenom X3 "Toliman" CPUs. Ars reviews AMD's triple-core; is it a threat to Intel?

Re-establishes AMD as a competitor in the $150+ market., Strong multi-threaded performance in certain tests compared to dual-core alternatives.

When I said "certain" tests, I meant it-triple-core products are not a guaranteed win over Intel's Core 2 Duo, Pricing on certain models make them a bad deal.

Still great bang for your buck

This processor in my experience overclocks quite well 3.0 ghz with no voltage change, can hit 3.4 or higher with amd overdrive though through bios I have it stable at 1.36 volts at 3.2ghz. Get a quality 790gx board with this and you have a low cost...

Solid processor for the price, very competent overclocker with sb750 3.2 ghz with slight volt bump, runs everything I throw at it without a hiccup

Phenom 2's are faster and higher ocers, Am3 isn't too much more expensive

Stable at load, affordable

I have the Blue Orb CPU fan attached to this CPU, and the core temps rarely get above 57C.

I am a computational scientist and digital artist running Linux, and I abuse my hardware: I run all 4 cores for weeks at a time while also using the machine as my standard desktop. This CPU is a rock. GHz for GHz it is as fast as the Opterons and...

Supposedly it consumes (or generates in heat) 125 W, which is a bit costly for something that is on 24/7 at load. But the 65 and 95 Watt versions aren't as powerful

A decent processor-good bang for buck if on sale

This is a good chip for the price, and I can't think of a competitor that offers a similar chip of the same kick at the same price. I got this with a Gigabyte mobo combo and saved ~$50, so well worth it for a family/budget gaming computer. I used an...

Quad core, speedy, easy to apply mild overclocking with stability. Expect ~2.9 Ghz before air cooled problems arise

Heat is the big issue with this chip (and power consumption). If you have gone to the trouble of buying the Black Edition, you expect to overclock, but this chip has a fairly low ceiling compared to others. I could not reasonably get it above 3.0GhHz...

Awesome

Overall it's great, and newegg is amazing as always.

This thing cruzes. Although many will say to go with the Phenom II's, I'm really happy with this purchase, especially for the price. This is the core of my budget-gaming-media-everything build. This thing was already pretty fast from the box, but with...

Nothing really. Very happy with it

4 core newbie

Been a fan of AMD's since the 233 mhz K7 days, and once again they haven't disappointed me. Excellent processor at a great price.

Infinately faster than my old Opteron 165 processer. Not clock-locked for those who want to OC their system
