MSI WindBox 6667BB-004US Barebones-PC Kit

Not every computer needs to have a four billion hertz processor and the world's best video card. Just like power tools, some jobs require raw power while other jobs require more finesse. When the job at hand involves video, web applications, light...

Small Case ; Vertical Profile ; Low Power Consumption ; Runs Cool ; Inexpensive

No Network Boot ; Hardware installation requires total deconstruction ; Soft plastic exterior

One aspect of presentation that may have been overlooked is the marketing of the Wind Box platform. MSI has a huge range of "specialty" computing products, though they don't call them such. From barebones to all-in-one systems they cover a wide variety...

Quality Junk

I have seen some people having luck with this ATI card decoding h264. If you have the time to mess with it and risk RMAing, go for it. I've just purchased one of those spiffy nVidia ION mini computers.

Built well. Trivial to get the side cover back on the first time if you do not read the directions. Other than that, the thing runs really cool even with a hard drive in it. Allows for PXE booting too. AND a hidden feature I found when looking for the...

The onboard ATi graphics is completely useless. I have tried every OS and every driver. Windows XP / 7, Ubuntu all 32 and 64bit, latest versions drivers (proprietary driver for ubuntu), even tried to Omega alternative driver ; DXVA in windows DOES NOT...

Excellent...no trouble

no trouble removing mobo and installing RAM or HDD. It was what I expected and more. I got the Kingston HyperX 2GB 200-Pin DDR2...low latency...improves performance. Good product...would buy again...low cost.

small ; quiet ; inexpensive ; perfect htpc

Horrible Performance

Had a lot of great features on paper, Small, Quiet, IR, Slot for Wireless etc

Wow I bought this for a HTPC. And boy did it disappoint. After doing alot of research I decided on it over an ION based system. The performance was terrible. All I wanted was 720p network playback. The only way to get it was through WMP and by buying...

See my first on teview on page 1. This is an update to let everyone know that my box has been running for over 3 months always on with out any issues. Also I decided to put it to a few test playing Resident Evil 5, Devil May Cry 4 and Crysis using...

steve00 update

Also, tried mythbuntu, and the install didn't pick up the wireless usb dongle(netgear) or the usb pctv tuner(pinnacle). I might try digging more into this option at some point, but not taking the time right now.

Still works fine. Figured out ATI Catalyst problem. Automatic windows update was installing the newer driver which would kill the video leaving just the audio. Changed update to notify only and all is good. Just unclick the ATI update in the windows...

Just not quite enough gut's to run Hulu, though the medium setting is pretty good. I can live with it for awhile, though I find myself looking for full power media center PC deals. I mainly want one that's small, quiet and cheap, and there hasn't been...

Linux!!!!!, but no HDMI

I tried multiple drivers and none of them will give me audio over HDMI in linux due to the Video driver failing to load before I can even get into the OS. If anyone can figure out a way or can help me out please email me at my nickname at gmail.com.

Great specs with low power for a small price

I can't get audio to work over HDMI in linux. I don't know how p4 acomplished it with the PPA drivers. No matter what I do in the xorg.conf it never displays anything. I've tried tweaking the monitor settings to match what the xorg log shows me my TV...

Nice Starter to HTPC

Make sure to buy a full sized HDD, otherwise you'll have to rig something up inside just to get the (notebook) HDD to line up. If you want to add in a wireless card, make sure you have the antenna wires for it.

Price, size, case access. It runs quiet, has a small form factor, and is running great so far

Memory socket is on underside of motherboard. Yeah, that's my only con. It took some looking through MSI's documentation on their website before I could find that fact, but once I did, everything came into place

Not perfect, but I like it

Apart from the video driver issue and the online video, this is exactly what I wanted: a small, quiet, inexpensive media center PC. A barebones this cheap with a HDMI port is really a find. I can live with the online video performance and will report...

Small, quiet, inexpensive. Does pretty much what I want, which is Windows 7 media center and online video. Media center is the primary usage. With a 750 gig hard drive and two gig of RAM, media center is great. Live TV works well, recording is super. I...

When I was first doing the build, I used the new catalyst from the ATI website. Media center video wouldn't work at ll, but I had audio. After cursing loudly and futzing around a bunch, I tried the catalyst from the driver CD and all was wel for a...

So Far So Good

Since I couldnt get the MSI wireless card I am instead using a Dell Truemobile 1510n card (half-height mini-pciE for laptops) and its working perfectly. The RAM install was difficult, but once I got through it the first time there should be no problems...

Small and excellent price point for my requirements (driving video message boards on a factory floor). Silent. VESA mountable. I like them enough that I have ordered 7 additional units that will be used in two different factories for the message boards

RAM install requires entirely disassembling the case and removing the motherboard. Directions/Manual are useless for the system-builder, seem geared for someone buying the machine from a system-builder instead. MSI branded wireless card is totally MIA,...
