perfect mythtv frontend

I ordered the barebones version plus a Crucial 8GB SODIMM plus a Kingston 120GB SSD. I didn't care about the SSD size but I wanted the maximum 8GB memory which was not available preinstalled. Installed Fedora 22 (like my other linux systems in the...

- Small & silent - Easily streams 1080p video encoded in (that I've tried) h.264 level 4 and MPEG-2 to my TV over HDMI (including audio) - The video part of this (Kabini) APU supports AMD's UVD3 which is supported in mythtv with VDPAU, no special...

Has built-in wifi which I didn't need so would have preferred not to pay for. Oh well.

Works as expected, had to tweak a bit for Linux (this was expected), but once configured works like a charm, can't be beat for the price in my opinion

AVOID - Major Firmware problems

I can't tell you how much I really WANTED to like these. They had everything I wanted (except functional firmware) for an HTPC platform. I purchased 4 of them (2 at $119 and 2 at $99) - 1 was DOA (due to firmware issues), one died when I delivered it...

Small, silent, reasonably good performance, built-in wifi, plenty of USB ports, eSata port, HDMI, IR receiver, SD reader

Firmware is total ABYSMAL

Awesome HTPC

I absolutely loved this box. Unfortunately, It fell off my high dresser and broke. Yes, I am an idiot. I cannot replace it because either it is not available, or I don't see the value at the current pricing. An i3-4010U based solution seems to be the...

Better than Atom based unit performance wise ; Being based on an AMD APU is a plus for me. The graphic are better than the base Intel HD Graphics, but not as good as the HD 4000 series ; Dead silent ; Very low power ; Plays casual games fine ; Streams...

This does not seem to be a popular model ; The current situation may make it less than cost effective ; Because it is dead silent, it does get warm

perfectly adequate

I'm happy I bought it.

Silent, small, quad-core, adequate computing. I put an SSD and 8GB RAM in it. It is cute-sized and effective.

After adding hardware and software it's obviously more expensive.
