Canon EOS 1300D

Canon's latest entry-level model DSLR represents excellent value, and provides many photographers with the opportunity to get on the first rung of the DSLR ladder.

Canon EOS 1300D review: Entry-level ace?

Thanks to smartphones, everyone's a photographer these days – but what happens when you hit your iPhone or Galaxy's imaging limits and realise you need something a bit beefier? Chances are, your first thought is to buy yourself what used to be known as...

Accessibly priced, cecent all-round image quality, hardy and lightweight plastic body, simple control layout with large buttons, detail-rich LCD screen, Wi-Fi and NFC for easy smartphone hookup

Uninspiring styling, screen doesn’t fare well in sunshine, slow continuous shooting speed, just nine autofocus points, limited ISO range, not much different to earlier 1200D model

The world of entry-level DSLRs isn't a particularly dynamic or fast-moving one, but Canon has succeeded in hitting all the main bullet points with the 1300D, bar the lack of touchscreen.

Canon EOS 1300D review

Canon's stripped things back for its new budget DSLR – but has it compromised in the right places?

Great picture quality ; Wi-Fi and app abilities ; Low price

Hardly a looker ; Video and Live View lack autofocus ; Similarly priced rivals are better

It’s cheap as chips and takes great photos but the 1300D’s not quite the bargain it seems

Canon EOS Rebel T6 / EOS 1300D review

A reasonably specced, good-value option for beginners

Good value ; Wi-Fi and NFC ; Easy to use ; High-resolution screen

Fixed screen ; No touchscreen ; 95% viewfinder ; Slow focusing in live view ; Only 18MP resolution

The Canon EOS Rebel T6 / EOS 1300D is a solid if uninspiring entry-level DSLR, eschewing eye-catching features in favour of solid image quality at a low cost. It's a great beginner option, but there are better spec'd entry-level DSLRs available.

Canon EOS 1300D review: Doesn't quite cut the mustard

Keenly priced, but the Canon 1300D doesn't do enough to fend off strong competition

Has Wi-Fi and NFC ; High resolution rear display

Image quality not as high as rivals

Meanwhile, those on tighter budgets are better served by the Nikon D3300, which is still available, a more dependable camera and is currently available for around £300 with its kit lens. As with the 1200D before it, the Canon 1300D fails to rise above...

Canon EOS Rebel T6/EOS 1300D review

Why are you considering a cheap dSLR? Think it through before forking over the money for the Canon EOS Rebel T6, aka the EOS 1300D.

The Canon EOS Rebel T6's photo and video quality are definitely better than those of a point-and-shoot.

Its feature set is beyond minimal and it's slow for a family camera.

The Canon EOS Rebel T6 (aka the EOS 1300D) hits the basics for a low price, but that's about it.

Canon EOS 1300D review

  (Rating Hidden)

Marketed squarely at first-time buyers or students, the Canon EOS 1300D is an affordable option with very good picture quality and image stabilisation. But does its budget price mean Canon has cut corners on build quality? Our experts tested it in the...

Canon EOS 1300D Review

Reviewed, the new Canon EOS 1300D DSLR, the entry level DSLR from Canon that features built-in Wi-Fi and NFC.

Excellent value for money ; Wi-Fi and NFC built-in ; Good colour reproduction ; Good ergonomics and handling ; Easy to use ; Decent battery life ; Auto White Balance options of warm or white

Disappointing ISO range, and poor ISO performance at ISO3200 and above ; Only 3fps continuous shooting, 6 raw shots ; Entry level kit lens lacks image stabilisation ; Lacks auto-HDR shooting

Few DSLR cameras feature built-in Wi-Fi, particularly entry-level DSLRs, and this makes the price of the Canon EOS 1300D all the more impressive. The built-in Wi-Fi is easy to use with a compatible smartphone and the built-in NFC makes it all the more...

Canon EOS Rebel T6

Canon's entry-level SLR, the EOS Rebel T6, entices those looking to graduate from smartphone shooting with a trusted brand name, but dated tech means you can do much better.

Provides access to the Canon lens system. On-screen shooting guide. Raw capture support. Crisp rear LCD. In-camera Wi-Fi.

Dated image sensor. Cannot autofocus when recording video. Slow focus in dim light and Live View. Rear LCD doesn't tilt or offer touch support. Old, disappointing bundled lens.

It's a real shame that the entry-level Canon SLR is a cobbled together dumping ground of old technology. The image sensor is put to shame by the competition, the bundled lens is nothing to write home about, and the focus system struggles mightily in...
