Canon EOS M50

Canon EOS M50 review: A great option both for beginners

Compact size and light weight make it easy to carry everywhere ; Excellent image quality, with reliable metering and auto white balance ; Quick and accurate autofocus, even with adapted EF-mount DSLR lenses ; Easy-to-use interface that still gives...

Single-dial control slower to use than twin-dial competitors ; Overly contrasty viewfinder blocks up shadow details ; Poorly implemented manual focus magnification ; Very small range of native EF-M lenses ; 4K video is subject to considerable restrictions

In many ways the EOS M50 is the best entry-level EOS Canon has yet made. It’s a great option both for beginners and for Canon DSLR owners tempted by the advantages of mirrorless.

Canon EOS M50 review

Canon's entry-level mirrorless camera remains a good value option for beginners, if a little outdated in areas like video.

Improved Dual Pixel CMOS AF Polished touchscreen Excellent EVF Easy to use Very good image quality

Poor battery life 4K video has a 1.6x crop Plasticky finish Lens range still limited

If you're looking for a mirrorless camera that offers great image quality, is easy to use and has a decent autofocus system, the EOS M50 is a great choice. If you're looking for a more rounded camera with a greater breadth of features and system...

Canon EOS M50 review: M series finally gets credible

The Canon EOS M50 is a step up for the M series. It's taken time to get here, but Canon finally has a credible mirrorless APS-C camera on its hands.

Capable Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus ; Vari-angle touchscreen is useful (and stows for protection) ; Small size and lightweight ; Decent image quality

Poor battery life (three bar system bad for projecting remaining life) ; Simplistic autofocus features ; Limited lens range (of limited quality ; Too) ; Some touchscreen quirks

Canon EOS M50 initial review: Hooray for 4K

Since Canon launched its mirrorless camera line-up - known as the EOS M range - we've failed to be too impressed. The EOS M50, however, could be the camera

Canon EOS M50 review: Save up to £200 at Amazon today only

Canon's latest entry-level mirrorless model offers plenty for those looking for a small and well-specified camera

Easy to use ; Fast in operation ; Strong set of features

Relatively poor battery life ; Kit lens is susceptible to flare

This is a neat little offering from Canon that will suit novices looking for a small, well-specified camera at an affordable price. It faces stiff competition from Sony and Fuji in particular, but offers enough to make it worthy of being on the...

Canon EOS M50 review

Crikey, Canon's finally made a solid mirrorless cam for beginners...

Small and light ; Good viewfinder ; Looks like a mini DSLR

Dials and controls might be too limited for some ; Limited battery life ; Small selection of native lenses right now

It’s no mirrorless wundercam, but the M50 is a solid little performer and an ideal first camera for smartphone upgraders

Canon EOS M50 Review

We review the new Canon EOS M50, Canon's entry level DSLR-style mirrorless camera, with some high-spec features, including 4K video, eye-detection focus and high ISO speeds.

The Canon EOS M50 offers a compact, DSLR styled mirrorless camera, with an updated 24mp APS-C CMOS sensor, which gives excellent image quality, with the same excellent colour reproduction that you get with Canon EOS DSLRs. You also get high-speed...

Canon EOS M50

The Canon EOS M50 is the company's first affordable camera with 4K, but there are better mirrorless options out there for video.

Compact. 24MP APS-C image sensor. 10fps burst. 7.4fps with tracking. Wide focus coverage area. Vari-angle touch LCD. Mic input. EVF. Wi-Fi.

4K video is cropped with slower autofocus. Native lens options still limited. Limited shots when shooting Raw bursts.

It's about time that Canon added 4K to a consumer camera—it's currently only available in the pro-grade EOS 5D Mark IV and EOS-1D X Mark II SLRs and in its cinema cameras. But what's in the EOS M50 was not the right way to do it. Cropped footage is...
