Canon EOS R Review | Trusted Reviews

Canon has finally joined the mirrorless full-frame party with the pro-friendly EOS R. But does it do enough to take the limelight from Nikon and Sony?

Great image quality ; Excellent EVF ; Full-frame images in an APS-C like shell

No in-body stabilisation ; Not the smallest full-frame CSC

A successful entry in the rapidly growing team of full-frame mirrorless cameras, if not the most complete in this class

Canon EOS R review

Canon have taken a seat at the full-frame mirrorless table

Great image quality ; Fully articulating screen ; Custom controls

Single SD card slot ; High price ; No in-body IS

A good first attempt, but it doesn’t blow us away - Canon will need to up its game for the next iteration of the R series

Canon EOS R initial review: A new era for full-frame mirrorless

Canon's new full-frame mirrorless camera comes with a new lens mount and a stack of features. Does it represent the future, or spell imminent failure?

Full-frame sensor and new lens line-up delivers superb quality potential ; Loads of customisation options ; Intuitive touch controls and M-Fn Bar has potential ; Finally a Canon mirrorless with impressive autofocus options ; Can focus in very low-light...

Lenses really aren't small ; One SD card slot ; It's rather pricey ; Limited lens range/can't buy without the EF adapter bundled in the box ; Learning curve for DSLR users: various settings hidden/require scrolling ; Autofocus could be more precise in...

This full-frame mirrorless camera is a major turning point for Canon, embodying both risk and reward in one very capable and commendable product.

Canon EOS R review

We take Canon's latest full-frame powerhouse for a spin

Great handling ; Excellent AF performance ; Lovely touchscreen ; Top-plate LCD is very versatile ; Decent electronic viewfinder

No great size advantage over an EOS DSLR ; Value of M-Fn control debatable ; No AF joystick ; 4K video limitations ; Single SD card slot

The Canon EOS R is a very capable camera, and should satisfy many EOS DSLR owners looking for a solid mirrorless alternative. If we weren't bound by a system, however, it would be hard to pick the EOS R over its rivals, especially when you consider the...

Canon EOS R review: Off to a flying start

Canon's mirrorless full-frame camera is a promising first effort

Fantastic image quality ; Surprising wealth of video modes ; Particularly impressive autofocus function

Innovative touch bar is less than innovative ; Battery life is underwhelming

We can’t wait to see what Canon does next with its mirrorless range, and we’re particularly interested to see if it starts bringing out mirrorless cameras that better bridge the gap between professional and consumer, but this is an absolutely stonking...

Canon EOS R dslr and mirrorless camera review

  (Rating Hidden)

Canon has entered the full-frame mirrorless camera market with the new Canon EOS R, going head-to-head with the Nikon ZR and Sony's a7R III. But does its performance justify its high price? We tested the Canon EOS R to find out. Read our full review to...

Review: The Canon EOS R is not what we expected

The EOS R isn't what I expected Canon's inaugural mirrorless full-frame camera to be. I thought it would produce a miniaturized 5D Mark IV, but instead it seems to have made an advanced EOS M.

Brilliant OLED viewfinder;Excellent image quality with vibrant colors;Trustworthy Dual Pixel AF

Works more like a consumer body;Slow frames per second with AF-C;Lacks in-body image stabilization;4K video shoots with a 1.8x crop

Canon EOS R Review

John Riley reviews the new Canon EOS R, Canon's full-frame 30mp mirrorless camera, with new RF mount.

The Canon EOS R is a great camera with a great lens, capable of delivering excellent image quality. There are minor operational, and design quirks that will make the camera feel awkward compared to a DSLR such as the 5D Mark IV, but for the most part...
