Canon EOS 800D

Canon EOS 800D review: A great entry-level DSLR, with notable improvements on Canon's previous offerings.

Excellent image quality ; Speedy Live View AF performance ; Intuitive and easy to use ; Lightweight and compact by DSLR standards ; Vari-angle touchscreen

Still quite pricey ; Plasticky build ; Only Full HD video ; Optical viewfinder only covers 95%

For those who prefer the handling, balance and usability of DSLRs to more advanced mirrorless cameras, the 800D remains an excellent first-time choice.

Canon EOS Rebel T7i / EOS 800D review

If you're looking for a solid entry-level DSLR, this could be for you

User-friendly interface ; Excellent touchscreen control ; Live View AF performance ; Impressive overall image quality

No 4K video ; Plastic finish ; Dynamic range could be better ; Only 95% viewfinder coverage

The new sensor impresses, as does the 45-point autofocus system backed up by excellent live view AF, while the newly designed graphical interface will certainly make this camera even more appealing to new users. The absence of 4K video and the quality...

Canon EOS 800D preview: Mid-range made accessible

Canon is bulking out its EOS range with a number of new DSLR models, the 800D taking on a more beginner role than its also-announced step-up 77D cousin.Between

On the one hand the Canon 800D busies the EOS DSLR range and could make that purchase decision more complex. On the other, if you know you want a more accessible camera with a and step-by-step user interface then it makes more sense than the 77D. Plus...

Canon EOS 800D review: A brilliant sub-£1000 DSLR

With big improvements to performance and autofocus, the Canon EOS 800D is a consummate all-rounder

Sophisticated autofocus, especially for video and live view ; Fast performance across the board

Automatic exposure settings could be smarter ; Beaten by Nikon for noise levels ; No 4K video

This is a strange time for SLRs. Compact system cameras have overtaken them for performance and video capture, and they’re generally on a par for image quality, controls and ergonomics. Meanwhile, SLRs such as the EOS 800D are increasingly behaving...

Canon EOS Rebel T7i/800D review

I usually steer people toward last-generation (or more) models for the best value on a budget, and that's especially true with Canon's entry-level dSLRs, the Rebel series in the US. Canon tends to trickle down technology from older, higher-end models...

The Canon EOS Rebel T7i/800D delivers reasonable photo and video quality and respectable performance in a time-tested body.

Relatively large compared to other cameras in its class and its photos aren't as sharp as competitors'.

For a step up in photo quality or performance from a phone or compact, the Canon EOS Rebel T7i/800D remains a fan favorite.

Canon EOS 800D review

Can Canon redefine the entry level again with the user-friendly but well-specced 800D?

Excellent autofocus ; Lovely picture quality ; Easy to shoot with

Price is too high ; No 4K video ; Distinctly dull styling

A great all-rounder that’s well suited to beginners but a little too pricey to earn top marks

Canon EOS 800D review

  (Rating Hidden)

Released at the same time as the 77D, Canon has another new release in its EOS range, the Canon 800D. It could be described as an entry-level DSLR, but its specifications tell a different story. It includes a new user interface, which makes it easier...
