Canon EOS RP review

Affordable, full-frame and mirrorless: what's not to like?

Good price ; Small and light (for full-frame) ; Adaptor bundled for your older lenses

Small body can feel unbalanced ; 4K video limitations ; No weather-sealing

Canon EOS RP review

Full-frame on a shoestring

Compact and light body ; Very good value for money ; Generous buffer - better than quoted ; Very good AF performance ; Responsive touchscreen

Limited native lens selection ; Rolling shutter and crop in 4K video ; Slightly sensitive metering system ; No sensor-based image stabilization ; Underwhelming battery life ; Silent shooting very limited

Arguably a much more compelling proposition for those looking to move to full-frame mirrorless shooting than the EOS R, the EOS RP is blessed with a good build, great image quality, sound autofocus performance and many further pleasures. The sheen is...

Hands on: Canon EOS RP review

Canon's most affordable full-frame camera yet

Familiar control layout ; Lightweight body ; Dual Pixel CMOS AF ; Touchscreen interface

Cropped 4K video ; Slow burst shooting ; Modest battery life ; Limited RF lens support

While it's a shame there's no RF lens that really complements the EOS RP at the moment, at just $1299/£1,399/AU$2,149 body-only (with a bundled EF-EOS R mount adapter), it's certainly one of the most affordable full-frame cameras going.

Canon EOS RP review: Full-frame mirrorless goes affordable

Following the R launch in 2018, the RP targets would-be DSLR buyers as a more entry-level full-frame mirrorless option. But does it make sense to buy?

Great camera for the price ; Solid AF and metering performance ; Top noise control in high ISO ; Touchscreen control

Poor battery life ; Cropped 4K capture ; Smaller body and grip - some lenses aren't well balanced ; Current lack of affordable lenses

The RP is the step-down model to the EOS R, but we find the more affordable camera a better handler on account of its layout and size. However, limited battery life, some mis-balanced issues when using larger lenses, and 4K crop in video capture are...

Canon EOS RP review: An affordable route into full-frame photography

The EOS RP is intuitive out of the box while offering enough room to grow for established photographers

Solid build quality ; Strong stills performance ; Great autofocus

Falls behind on video features

It’s fun to use, which often translates to “not so good for experienced photographers” but in this case simply means a camera that is intuitive out of the box while offering enough room to grow for photographers already up to speed with the nuances of...

Canon EOS RP review

Full-frame on a budget

Compact and relatively light for full frame ; Affordable ; Brilliant Autofocus ; Effective touchscreen

Only crop 4k video ; Battery life could be better ; No sensor-based image stabilisation

It’s light enough to not be a burden and with razor sharp autofocus and top image quality it’s what we’ve been waiting for from Canon

Canon EOS RP Review

Canon EOS RP Review - We review the 26mp full-frame mirrorless camera from Canon, one of the most affordable FF mirrorless cameras available that can record 4K video. Find out how it performs in our full review.

The Canon EOS RP offers a cracking price point for a new full-frame mirrorless camera, compared to the competition, which already seems to be dropping in price, with the competition being around the £2000 price point.

Hands on: Canon EOS RP February 17th, 2019 | by Wilson Wong Audio-visual 0

Shutterbugs who like Canon's latest mirrorless cameras but feel that last year's EOS R was too costly will find the new EOS RP more wallet-friendly.

Canon EOS RP review: A full-frame camera that cuts too many corners

Canon's second full-frame mirrorless camera, the budget EOS RP, is a disappointment. It has potential as a street photography camera thanks to the small size, but is hampered by an inflexible silent-shooting mode. The fully articulating screen could...

Great handling ; Good autofocus performance ; Nice eye-tracking system ; Excellent low-light performance

4K video hobbled by cropping and mediocre AF ; Poor dynamic range ; No in-body stabilization ; Crippled silent shooting mode

If I was shopping for a camera in that budget range, I'd be seriously tempted by Fujifilm's $1,499 X-T3, even though it's an APS-C and not a full-frame mirrorless model. It has a better feature set across the board, with faster shooting speeds and much...
