Canon Digital IXUS 950 IS

It's lovely, it's expensive, it's a Canon.

The Canon Digital IXUS 950 IS is an expensive luxury camera, but there's no doubt that the money buys solid build quality, brilliant performance and superior picture quality too. There are many other cameras that can beat its specification and features...

Canon Ixus 950 IS review

What do you get for the camera that has everything?

Strong features spec ; Delivers good-quality images ; Very well built

Difficult to use at times ; Zoom range could be greater ; Quite pricey

It's fast and has a great screen, but only an average 4x lens and some interface quirks. Perfect for well-heeled beginners

Canon Digital IXUS 950 IS

Despite its limitations – the problems with shadows, AF, the noise issues and that new lens – this is an accomplished but flawed step on the IXUS' evolutionary ladder. The camera may not have evolved wings or a way to make a cup of tea in the morning,...

Image stabilisation, build, image quality

No manual control in “manual” mode, noise above ISO 800, lens’ wide end not wide enough, clunky mode dial, shadows fill-in, detail smoothing in some scene modes, plus AiAF not accurate enough

Canon IXUS 950IS

A style conscious compact

This stylish compact is great for those who want to just point and shoot, but equally good for those who want more control

Canon IXUS 950 IS

The Canon IXUS 950 IS is a high class compact digital camera. As well as a stylish design it offers picture quality that is well above average and also extra features that are not normally found at this level. It is more expensive than its rivals, but...

Sharpness of photo - build quality and design - viewfinder - red eye correction tool

High ISO settings

"If you are looking for a quality, point and shoot digital camera then the Canon IXUS 950 IS is one for your shortlist. It has a number of strengths such as picture quality and build quality and is certainly well worth a close look. Recommended."

Ixus 950 IS

Ousting the 10-megapixel IXUS 900 Ti as the flagship of Canon's IXUS series, the new 8mp IXUS 950 is, in fact, a replacement for the lower-end 6mp IXUS 800 IS.

Fast operation, optical image stabilizer works well and the wider zoom range is handy. Great 2cm macro option.

No direct control over apertures and shutter speeds, noisy sensor, and no RAW file-capture option.

While the 950 is likeable, the 850 IS, with its compelling mix of low noise and an image stabilized 28-105mm zoom, still seems like the one IXUS to go for
