Canon PowerShot A630

This is probably just too big to fit in most pockets but the lack of a case is not vital as the lens is covered and the screen is capable of being rotated 180 degrees as with a lot of camcorders.

The is 11.5x6.5x5cm and weights around 350grams. This is an 8mega pixel unit with 4x optical zoom. The SD card supplied is only 16MB (down probably to pressure from retailers) but I was very surprised to find it comes only standard with (4) AA...

Canon Powershot A630

If you would like a digital camera with advanced features, but cannot afford a digital SLR then the Canon Powershot A630 is a very good option. I look on this type of camera as a starter camera for anyone who has an interest in photography.

Sharpness of the photos ; Indoor photo quality ; Feature set at reasonable price ; LCD performance in lowlight ; Angle of LCD screen can be varied

Small SD card supplied

"The Canon Powershot A630 is another solid offering from Canon. With manual exposure controls, a more than reasonable price tag and good picture quality the Powershot A630 is likely to be a big seller. Recommended."

Canon - PowerShot A630

Canon's PowerShot range of compact digital cameras has been popular for many years and, as prices continue to drop, more and more features are built into each new model. The A630 has much the same size ...

The PowerShot A630 is a useful compact digital camera with a lot of features for the money. It's good to see the high resolution and flexible LCD monitor being included in a camera in this price bracket, but some other shortcuts, such as the low...

Canon Powershot A630

This slightly pricey, 8-megapixel compact isn't super-trim and sexy, but it works very well in lots of situations. The PowerShot A630 packs an amazing array of useful features and is incredibly simple to operate. Despite the cost, there is plenty to love.

Big, bright articulating 2.5-inch LCD. Easy-to-use manual controls. Direct-vision viewfinder. 4X optical zoom. Lots of manual controls.

A little pricey for a compact. Video could be smoother. Slightly bulky.

The 8MP Canon PowerShot A630 may be a bit bulky for a compact camera, but the great physical controls and easy-to-use features will appeal to those who appreciate a variety of settings to capture their photos.

Canon PowerShot A630 review

An 8-megapixel version of the 10-megapixel PowerShot A640 , the Canon PowerShot A630 is otherwise identical to its higher-resolution sibling. Both share the same sturdy, chunky body; 35mm-to-140mm-equivalent lens with accessory lens mount; and broad...

Lots of manual controls; flip-out LCD; accessory lenses are available.

Noisy at ISO 800; no image stabilization.

Though it's not a great choice for low-light shooting, the Canon PowerShot A630 is a solid, feature-rich digital camera.

Canon PowerShot A630 Digital Camera - Hands-On Preview

The Canon PowerShot A630 couples an 8.0-megapixel CCD imaging sensor with a 4x optical zoom lens that offers a 35mm-equivalent focal range of 35-140mm, a moderate wide-angle to a somewhat more generous telephoto than you'll find on most compact...

Excellent value for the money ; Bright, attractive color that stops short of seeming overdone ; Good skin tones ; Auto white balance handles a wide range of lighting well ; Better than average exposure accuracy ; Good lens, generally low distortion and...

Inaccurate optical viewfinder, Too many manuals to find what you need when you need it, Auto rotation not recognized by many other standard applications
