Canon PowerShot G6

Despite its name, Canon's 7.1 Megapixel PowerShot G6 is the fifth and latest incarnation of this popular digital camera line. Read on to see if it lives up to its heritage.

It would seem that Canon has listened to users of previous G-Series cameras and implemented many improvements over the older models. This has culminated in a much slicker camera in terms of operation, a more compact and ergonomic body and a hike in...

Canon PowerShot G6

The G6 is Canon's latest top-end model in the PowerShot range. An update of the old G5, the PowerShot G6 offers a versatile package of point and shoot options with a truck load of manual controls and sophisticated options for the enthusiast snapper.

The lens is a stonker and the handling is extremely good despite the chunky design.

The colour screen is a tad soft in use making it hard to check for pin sharp focus and there’s a lot of image noise in shots at ISO 400.

Although the G6 is not the most compact of digital compacts, is fairly pricey for the resolution and has more noise at higher ISOs than I'd like to see, it still packs in a huge amount of kit and has excellent handling and ergonomics. The superb lens...

Canon PowerShot G6

The G6 looks like it should be a terrific camera, but although the image quality is great and the specifications are impressive, not enough has been done to bring the cameras responsiveness and controls up to date. It&trad

PowerShot G6

That Canon produced a PowerShot G6 at all comes as something of a surprise. The introduction of the 8mp Pro1 model earlier this year appeared to be the next step up from 2003's 5mp G5 model, and seemed to spell the end of the well-regarded G-series of...

This year's update of Canon's popular G-series compact digital camera, with more resolution, faster processing and a smaller body.

There are some ergonomic issues - the on/off switch is poorly positioned, and it's still too large to put in your pocket. Still prone to purple fringing.

Canon's usual extensive software range includes the main ImageBrowser for camera downloads and processing, PhotoCapture remote camera control, ZoomBrowser catalogue, PhotoStitch stitching, plus Arcsoft PhotoStudio, and VideoImpression image-editing....

Each round of improvements to Canon's G series just makes it better. G5 owners may not be ready to upgrade; but with its great image quality and smooth controls, the G6 is very enticing.

Canon PowerShot G6 review by PC Magazine

With a sleeker, more ergonomic shape, a powerful optical zoom, and a multitude of pro-level features, the Canon PowerShot G6 is a stride ahead of ...

Excellent picture qualityimages are well exposed and sharp, with great color reproduction ; a rotating 2-inch LCD ; easy-to-navigate menus for beginners ; features advanced users will like too, such as the ability to shoot RAW files

A little too easy to turn on accidentally ; maximum of just 30 seconds for movie recording at just 10 FPS ; doesn't use USB 2.0 for file transfers

Canon PowerShot G6 Review

Successor to the popular PowerShot G5 the new PowerShot G6 was announced on 19th August 2004. At the beginning of the year it became clear that Canon wouldn't be jumping on the six megapixel 1/1.8" CCD bandwagon, instead they were holding off for the...

Good resolution (better in real life than res chart) Punchy color, balanced tone (good shadow detail) Low noise, very low noise reduction / none About a stop more sensitive than indicated Good macro performance Improved lens, much lower fringing than...

Shallow angle jaggies affected resolution chart Low continuous shooting speed with LCD on USB 1.1 transfer (slow) Heaviest seven megapixel tested No live view histogram Limited image parameter adjustment

As the successor to the popular G5 the G6 has a lot to live up to. First impressions were that Canon decided on a shift in ergonomics and design, going for a more SLR-like appearance with a larger and more usable hand grip and angled shutter release...
