Canon PowerShot S100 review

The Canon PowerShot S100 is the latest premium digital compact camera to emerge

Full manual controls ; Lens control ring ; Good image quality

So-so battery life ; Modest lens reach ; GPS function is buried

Canon PowerShot S100 review

The Canon S100 is the company's brand new high end pocket camera, replacing the much-admired S95. In fact, the two look so alike that you might assume Canon have stuffed in a few new features (like GPS) and left it at that. But you'd be so, so wrong:...

Canon PowerShot S100

The Canon S100 is a compact camera that's all about providing the utmost user control and top-notch pictures. It's the highest-end Canon compact on the market (excluding the G12), though it does carry an equally high-end £429 price point. For the money...

Great pictures, biggest zoom in category, more control than S95

Poor close-focusing, very expensive, no hotshoe for viewfinder or extra flash, 200 shots per charge

There’s not much the S100 can’t do. We love the picture quality, the small size, that front lens ring with customisable shooting modes and the GPS technology. FlexiZone AF and the new grip also right the S95’s wrongs.

A sexy GPS-enabled, high-end compact

Great build quality ; Responsive GPS system ; Superb image quality – particularly when shooting raw ; Excellent manual control over settings ; Very impressive performance at high ISOs

Launch price is a little steep ; Limited control over the built-in flash ; Some features aren't as easily accessible as we'd like

With a growing demand for ever-smaller, more sophisticated digital cameras, camera manufacturers have to push the boundaries to vie for consumers' hard-earned cash.

The third and latest version of Canon's popular pocket-size S-series camera, the PowerShot S100 (£393 as of January 4, 2012), continues its predecessors' legacy by offering a compact body and manual controls. Since the PowerShot S90 debuted a few years...

The Canon PowerShot S100 is just about the most capable compact camera we've seen, and it's packed with features that will please both novices and advanced shooters.

Stunning image quality for a conventional compact camera, but shot-to-shot performance and battery life just keep it from top marks

Canon PowerShot S100

A great little camera with advanced features, the Canon PowerShot S100 builds on the strengths of its excellent predecessor.

As a trade-off for extending the zoom range to 5x the lens' aperture narrows very quickly as you zoom out. And there's no improvement over the S95's so-so performance, despite the price increase.

The Canon PowerShot S100 is a generally great little camera for advanced shooters who don't mind slowing down a bit from a dSLR.

Canon PowerShot S100 review

By combining raw image capture with features such as HD video and GPS tagging, the Canon PowerShot S100 is certainly one of the most highly featured compact cameras we have seen. But the camera isn't all bells and whistles. The new Canon...

Canon PowerShot S100

This little black offering fits into the smallest pocket but can take HD video as well as rather nice still images. Even if you have a larger and more powerful unit, this can be ready even before that comes from the bag.

The Canon PowerShot S100 measures 10.5x6x2.5cm and weights 192grams. 12.1MP, 5x optical zoom, a highly sensitive CMOS, ability to shoot RAW, GPS function, Full 1080P videos, high speed burst, 24mm ultra wide lens and intelligent IS for better low light...

Canon Powershot S9586/100

Picture quality, features, compact size, build quality

Slow response with flash

The Canon Powershot S100 is an excellent digital camera. If you are looking for a camera to carry everywhere you go with plenty of features then this could be the camera for you. It is hard to find fault and the Powershot S100 compares very well with...
