Canon S120

If you can stomach the high price tag, this is one of the best small compacts money can buy.

Good handling ; Excellent image quality ; Fast and easy to use ; Outstanding build quality

Somewhat overpriced currently ; So-so battery life

Another welcome feature is no doubt the Raw image capture provided by the Canon S120, and on the whole the specification of the S120 is certainly enough to keep advanced shooters happy.

Canon PowerShot S120 review

The Canon PowerShot S120 packs a next-gen processor that's 50% faster

Small yet solid ; Touchscreen LCD ; Top pic quality for its size

Pricey ; No handgrip ; No viewfinder

Canon Powershot S120 review

With the S120, Canon hopes to lure the serious photographist with a bright lens, twisty ring control and discreet styling, but is that enough when others offer more for less?

Slim ; Cool special modes ; RAW shooting ; Solid build ; Excellent picture quality ; Great image stabilisation ; Smooth, sharp video at 60fps

5x zoom is limiting ; Unfriendly interface ; Poor Wi-Fi integration ; Questionable battery life

Neat tricks, sharp snaps and smooth video, but usability issues hold it back from greatness

Canon PowerShot S120 review

Canon has a knack for making great compact cameras. The PowerShot S120, the replacement of last year's S110 model, might not reinvent the wheel, but it certainly get things turning faster in the pocketable high-end compact market. And if that's what...

Truly pocketable, decent build quality, champions image quality for the 1/1.7in sensor size, lens control ring is great, autofocus is up to the task and faster than before

Battery life could be better, over-exposure not uncommon, Wi-Fi interface needs smoothing out, pricey, no hotshoe for expansion, large-sensor competition is strong

If you're looking for a small, pocketable yet high-end compact camera that produces cracking images then there aren't many other places to look than directly at the PowerShot S120 or Panasonic Lumix LX7.

Canon S120 review

Pocket sized premium compact is packed with exciting features

Full manual control ; Raw format shooting ; Touchscreen ; Wi-Fi

Limited Wi-Fi options ; Limited digital filter control

The premium compact camera market is a crowded, but the S120 is one of the most solid performers you can buy. It's a good option for those who want top-notch image quality along with something that fits snugly in a pocket.

Fantastic videos, above-average photos – a strong contender but not the best

Canon PowerShot S120

The PowerShot range from Canon has lost its bulk now they come with a solid battery, so it will easily fit into a pocket, do not however fall into the trap of thinking this is not a powerful unit. It can take excellent pictures with little input from you.

The Canon PowerShot S120 measures 10x5.5x2.7cm the latter when off this figure can increase by 3cm when fully zoomed, it weights 216grams. A lot of novices get put off if the unit has a lot of buttons, they will like this as it has only four – apart...

Canon PowerShot S120 review

Like Sony with its newest cameras for 2014, Canon is also focusing on speed when it comes to its latest device. It's claiming a new Digic 6 processor makes the 12.1 megapixel, 5x optical zoom Canon PowerShot S120 compact some 50% faster than its S110...

Solid feel high quality construction despite the pocket proportions, touch screen control, customisable lens ring function will appeal to those who love getting hands on with camera operation

The asking price here would alternatively buy a cheap DSLR, lacks a handgrip, omits an eye level viewfinder

Canon PowerShot S120 Review

There's no question that the Canon PowerShot S120 is one of the best compact cameras money can buy. It has the performance, features and image quality of a high-end advanced compact with the style and portability of a pocket snapshot camera.

Canon PowerShot S120 Review

The Canon PowerShot S120 is an update to the S110, Canon's serious compact camera range. The latest model has a new star mode for astronomy shooting, a 12.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, 5x optical zoom and 9.4 fps continuous shooting. It is available for...

Easy to take impressive star trail shots, Has built-in Wi-Fi, Fast continuous shooting, Good image quality, Fast f/1.8 aperture when shooting wide, Screen has an excellent resolution

Poor battery life, No GPS built-in, No rubber hand grip
