It's a welcome return for Canon's advanced compact S-series

The Canon PowerShot S90 is a superb high-spec compact camera with the emphasis on image quality and controllable versatility. The range of features, build quality and results are excellent, although the fiddly controls and slightly sluggish performance...

Canon PowerShot S90 digital camera

The Canon PowerShot S90 was singing to us as soon as it was announced and from our first hands-on with the high-end compact, it was clear that there was something special going on. Having lived with the S90 for a couple of weeks, that special...

Creative control options, Control Ring, size, image quality, useful ISO range

Video offering a little disappointing, price

The Canon PowerShot S90 brings some powerful creative controls in a package that fits right into your pocket. But it is a compact camera first, and as such, delivers impressive point and shoot performance. For those looking for a little more fun, then...

Canon S90 review

Canon revives its S series compacts with this likeable SLR backup

Fast, bright zoom lens ; Quality high ISO sensor ; Powerful noise-reduction technology ; Innovative, helpful design ; Generous three-inch rear LCD

No HD video recording ; Flash is harsh on auto setting ; Rear rotary well is fiddly ; Burst mode could be faster ; Rear screen tends to scratch

Canon PowerShot S90 review

Canon's PowerShot S90 compact digital camera is one of the most powerful point-and-shoot models that you can slip into your shirt pocket. Much of the S90's appeal comes from its ability to overcome the shortcomings that often cripple compacts; it...

The Canon PowerShot S90 compact digital camera is the best pocket-size model we've seen. Even though it’s a fraction of the size of a digital SLR, it provides many of the features we value in larger cameras: a fast lens, a RAW option and high ISO...

An exceptional compact camera for demanding enthusiasts and affluent point-and-clickers, but it doesn't surpass Panasonic's LX3.

Canon PowerShot S90 - digital camera review

The Canon PowerShot S90 is designed for photography enthusiasts and it carries a hefty price tag to prove it. It also has some of the best controls you'll find on a compact camera for manual and semimanual shooting modes. Its lens and photo quality are...

Excellent control system for manual, semimanual shooting; fantastic wide-angle f2 lens; very good low-light photo quality.

Performance is merely average; no HD movie mode or optical zoom while recording; no optical viewfinder and a couple other design miscues.

As long as you're not expecting dSLR speed in a tiny body, the Canon PowerShot S90 is an excellent compact camera for advanced amateurs.

Canon PowerShot S90 review

Small, stylish and with full manual exposure control, the Canon PowerShot S90 is a great compact camera for those looking for a few more advanced features than the standard compact. Unlike its bigger brother, the PowerShot G11, the S90 is small enough...
