Canon PowerShot SD700 IS review

The Canon PowerShot SD700 IS is compact, though slightly larger than the other two models. Still, it's the right size to slip into a jacket or a loose pants pocket. At 6.8 ounces, it's a bit heavy for its small size, giving it a nice, solid feel.

Great performance and pictures; effective image stabilization; attractive, comfortable design.

No aperture-priority or shutter-priority modes; awkward optical viewfinder and power button.

The Canon PowerShot SD700 IS has practically everything you could want in a compact camera, though you might think the price tag a bit steep.

Canon Ixus 800 IS

With image stabilisation functionality, the Canon Ixus 800 IS would seem to offer the ideal feature set for the beginning photographer.

Good results in low light with image stabilisation setting on ‘shoot only’, attractive images with plenty of detail, a reliable all-round performer

Top ISO sensitivity restricted to ISO 800 in order to limit visible image noise, £100 more than its rivals, some camera shake unavoidable

Reviewing images reveals that although the image stabilisation is not infallible – there’s still the odd shaky shot – the individual shot setting seems to work more accurately than continuous. Colours in general are warm and vibrant, while skin tones...

Canon Ixus 800IS

A popular saying is that great things come in small packages, this certainly seems to be true in the case of this digital camera.

The is 8.5x5.5x2cm and weights only around 200grams. Certainly the images taken with this camera look excellent. It is a 6mega pixel offering and has 4x optical zoom. Canon Ixus 800IS I have only very minor gripes to make about this unit so lets get...

Canon PowerShot SD700 IS Review

This camera is targeted to Point-and-Shoot photographers with 6.0MP resolution (which is more than plenty for producing very large prints), and a 4x optical zoom (where most of its competitors stop at 3x). AUTO and 9 Scene Modes (plus 2 Color Effects)...

Canon IXUS 800 IS

The Canon IXUS 800 IS adds image stabilisation to an already popular range of digital cameras. The camera has six megapixels and a four times optical zoom lens. Picture quality is very good.

Build quality ; Picture quality ; Advanced movie features ; Design and style ; Viewfinder

It's not cheap ; Red eye ; Small memory card supplied

"The Canon IXUS 800 IS has a great deal going for it. Sharp photos, good colours and it works well in lowlight too. It also is one of the few cameras with this length of zoom lens to offer image stabilisation. There is always a price to pay for quality...

Canon Digital IXUS 800 IS

The IXUS 800 IS managed to impress us, much like the other Canon cameras we've looked at recently. Canon's performance in this space is one of the mos...

Great colours, Low noise level, Speedy operation, Nice design

Chromatic aberration higher than normal, Control layout could be better, Noise at high ISOs

Whilst it has some minor flaws, the IXUS 800 is a very attractive choice in the compact camera space, offering lightning fast operation with great colour balance and a nice design.
