Canon PowerShot SX280HS

A great travel camera with 20x zoom, Wi-Fi and GPS

Good compact design ; Impressive image quality ; Built-in Wi-Fi ; High speed shooting mode

High speed mode is in reduced MP ; Poor battery life ; Pop-up flash position

Accompanying the Wi-Fi connectivity is the addition of GPS technology. This allows for images to be tagged with location data and then placed on a map, which can then be reviewed using specialist software.

Canon PowerShot SX280 HS review

20x zoom compact debuts Canon's Digic 6 processor

20x optical zoom ; Wi-Fi and GPS ; Full manual control

No raw shooting ; Can't set AF point ; No touchscreen

Canon's SX280 is a good choice for anybody looking for a travel compact camera with lots of control over settings and a high zoom ratio. Its pictures have good colour and plenty of detail, and low light performance is admirable.

Canon PowerShot SX280 HS

In the search for all-in-one compact camera perfection the Canon's thrown its latest tech into the ring: the PowerShot SX280 HS is the first Canon model to introduce the Digic 6 processing engine. But by resting on the same 20x optical zoom and...

Best-in-class image quality for a 20x zoom compact, decent image stabilisation, full manual control, Wi-Fi may have occasional use, close-up macro mode

Limited autofocus options, no touchscreen, no raw, 500mm has f/6.8 max aperture, colour fringes visible, Wi-Fi a faff to use, Wi-Fi battery drain

The SX280 HS doesn't add much compared to its year-old SX260 sibling. We would rather have seen the addition of a touchscreen LCD and broader, more accessible autofocus options added on instead of the Wi-Fi feature which, in its current state, is just...

Canon PowerShot SX280

This has 20x optical zoom and its added weight is well distributed to make it holdable even with a substantial amount of zoom. While some may consider that 12.1MP is a little ‘small' it is all down to the quality of the CMOS chip.

The Canon PowerShot SX280 measures 10.5x6x3cm and weights 230grams. The right side has the wrist strap anchor point and a rubber bung to cover the AV and HDMI connections. The left side is clear, while the base has tripod screw and a door behind which...

Canon PowerShot SX280 HS Review

The PowerShot SX280 HS is a powerful point-and-shoot with a strong feature-set, but isn't without some shortcomings.

When it comes to compact superzooms, Canon puts together a pretty impressive list of specs with the Powershot SX280. Cameras like this show the performance and features of advanced point-and-shoots continue to evolve and there’s still a place for them...

Canon PowerShot SX280 HS ( Black)

Compared with its predecessor, the SX260 HS , the SX280 shares the same 20x, f3.5-6.8, 25-500mm lens and 12-megapixel backside-illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor. Joining them in the SX280, however, is an all-new Digic 6 image processor, which provides less...

The Canon PowerShot SX280 HS has shooting modes for every type of photographer from casual to advanced; a useful long zoom lens with excellent image stabilization; and overall excellent photo and video quality for a compact megazoom.

Battery life is short, especially if you use the Wi-Fi and GPS features or movie capture. The flash isn't in a great location, and there are no easy panorama or HDR shooting options.

Wi-Fi connectivity and a new processor help make Canon's PowerShot SX280 HS one of the top compact megazooms available. But you'd better load up on batteries.
