Canon PowerShot SX30 IS

Canon's 35x super zoom is being touted as the biggest on the planet. Does this PowerShot show that biggest is best and truly offer the most emcompassing all-in-one solution?

Canon PowerShot SX30 IS review

The Canon PowerShot SX30 IS camera has the biggest optical zoom in the room. But does it make rival bridge cameras envious?

Canon PowerShot SX30 IS

The super-zoom is not the most exciting category of compact around at the moment, but the Canon PowerShot SX30 IS does an excellent job of shaking up the party. To give it its dues, it's not just a super-zoom, it's currently the super-zoom with the...

Ridiculous zoom, good screen, bags of fun and very hard to take bad shots on

Too noisy at high ISO, the AF doesn’t always hit at high zoom

This is probably the best super-zoom we’ve had our hands on. There’s slight issues of noise indoors, the odd kink here and there that might have been a little smoother given an almost infinite amount of product development time but, ultimately, it is a...

Canon PowerShot SX30 IS review

Is the new Canon SX30 the best bridge camera?

Easy to use ; Good quality pics at lower ISOs ; Great focal length

No RAW support ; Focussing can be slow at longer focal lengths

We are used to digital bridge cameras having wide focal length ranges, but the 14.1-million-pixel Canon PowerShot SX30 IS is a little bit special because its 35x optical zoom gives the SX30 IS a focal length range equivalent to 24-840mm.

Canon PowerShot SX30 IS review

The enormous 35x zoom is tempting but neither the lens nor the sensor lives up to expectations at this price.

Canon PowerShot SX30 IS (Black) review

Let's get something straight: the Canon PowerShot SX30 IS is basically little more than a compact point-and-shoot camera with a long lens. It may look like a digital SLR, but outside of that, they have almost nothing in common. If you're expecting...

Flexible lens range; excellent image stabilization; features for every kind of user.

Generally soft, noisy photos at full size; overall slow performance; no raw capture.

The Canon PowerShot SX30 IS is a point-and-shoot camera with a 35x zoom lens. As long as you're not expecting much more than that, it's a very good megazoom.

Canon PowerShot SX30 IS review

The Canon PowerShot SX30 IS is a great travel camera let down a little by having an overpopulated sensor. However, for many people this camera could be the ideal first step into photography.

Canon PowerShot SX30is

This is one of a long range of cameras with the ‘PowerShot' name produced by Canon. It is also a contender for one of the best; it allows both the novice and those more advanced to get the best from it as well as from themselves.

This is a lovely unit and certainly worth the highly commended I have awarded it. For anyone coming from a pocket camera this makes a perfect stepping stone on the journey to a DLSR unit and the size and shape help also
