Casio applies G-Shock toughness to its latest compact camera

May, 2011

Expert review by : Gavin Stoker (pocket-lint.com)

Casio Exilim EX-G1 digital camera

Do you want a very portable digital snapshot camera for use in all weathers and formerly inappropriate conditions? We had fun using the EX-G1 and while we admired its looks, we found that occasionally practicality had been sacrificed to achieve the...

Cool (if occasionally impractical) design, lightweight, fun to use, user friendly for the most part, toughened qualities

Variable image quality, which on the whole resembles the output from a digital camcorder that also shoots stills, plus priced at a slight premium because of its toughened attributes

We had fun using the EX-G1 and while we admired its looks, we found that occasionally practicality had been sacrificed to achieve the esoteric design.

Casio Exilim EX-G1 review

Snowboarders, snorkelers, and rock climbers, listen up: the ruggedized Casio Exilim EX-G1 point-and-shoot digital camera is a worthy companion for your next outdoor adventure.

All in all, the Casio Exilim EX-G1 is not the best camera if you're looking to snap breathtaking, wall-size photos of the great outdoors. But if you simply want to tote something to get quick shots on your next mountain-biking/white-water...

Extremely compact for a rugged, waterproof camera, but in virtually all other respects, it's a disappointment.

Casio Exilim EX-G1 review

Casio gets tough with its first ruggedised camera. But can this compact hard man take refined photos?

As rugged as a granite statue of Jason Statham, but sadly the pictures it takes are about as easy on the eye

Casio's first plunge into the rugged compact market

With a price-tag of over £250 Casio have been too ambitious with this model. There is nothing dramatically different added to the market here and there are better alternatives available.

Casio Exilim EX-G1

Named to tie in with Casio's durable G-Shock brand of watches, the Exilim EX-G1 is the world's thinnest, rugged compact camera. Among its street-tough credentials is that it's shock resistant up to 2.13 metres and freezeproof to a temperature of -10°....

The 3x optical zoom is a little ‘short’ in comparison to some rivals, such as Sanyo’s waterproof VPC-WH1. The choice of the less-common microSD and microSDHC memory cards means you cannot use any of your existing SD or SDHC media. Casio Exilim EX-G1 is...

Casio EXILIM EX-G1 review

The Casio EX-G1 is Casio's first ruggedised compact. Freezeproof, waterproof, dustproof and shock resistant, but what are the pictures like? The What Digital Camera Casio EXILIM EX-G1 review finds...

Slim body makes for unobtrusive pocketing, ruggedness

Body too slim for comfortable use, 38mm lens not wide, image quality, electronic anti-shake

The Casio EX-G1 does what it says on the tin - it's rugged, freezeproof, waterproof, dustproof, shock resistant and ever-so-slim. But while it excels in the rough-handed department, it's let down by a relatively low-spec, not a wide enough angle lens...
