Casio Upgrades S500 After Two Weeks

Of four new cameras unveiled one was a surprising upgrade to the gorgeous S500, which only came out last month.

Casio Exilim EX-S500

Casio Exilim EX-S500 Review. Slimline five megapixel digital camera. No problem to fit into a pocket. Standard set of features for a point and shoot digital camera.

Minimal shutter lag ; Design ; Ease of use

Indoor focusing problems ; Very small internal memory ; Small flash range

The Casio Exilim EX-S500 is a good all round ultra compact digital camera. I have reservations about the quality of the camera indoors though.

Exilim EX-S500

Casio's 5.1-megapixel EX-S500 may be one of the thinnest zoom lens-equipped digital cameras you can buy. It's diddy at just 1.5cm front to back with its 3x zoom lens retracted - guaranteed to garner admiring and envious looks.

Tiny & good-looking. Easy-to-use menu system. Antishake system.

Precise zooming difficult. Lack of sharp detail. Noise is obvious. Limited aperture range. No media provided.

There was also a significant amount of noise (or speckling) in solid colours. The camera's limited aperture range made it harder to capture composite shots with both the near foreground and distant background in focus

Casio - Exilim Card EX-S500

The Exilim Card EX-S500 is one of those digital cameras designed to look good in the hand. It is very thin indeed (its dimensions are 90 x 59 x 16.1mm) and should slip easily into any ...

This is a nice camera for anyone looking for both portability and good snapshot options, not to mention style. It is not as sophisticated as some, but it has very easy handling and the 'Bestshot' mode will suite those unsure of the complexities of...

Review: Casio Exilim EX-S500

A perfect go-anywhere compact camera that is capable of taking more than just point-and-shoot photos.

Two year warranty ; Past movie feature ; Metallic orange version

Only the quick start guide is in print form, you have to print the manual from the CD ; LCD very tricky to see in bright sunlight

The quality of both still and video photography is excellent for a camera of this size and should delight. That said, it's a compact, and serious photographers will always want the flexibility of a larger cousin.

Casio Exilim EX-S500 Review

Mindboggling. That's the only way to describe the ultra-tiny new 5-megapixel digicam from Casio.

Casio Exilim EX-S500 Camera

Casio's $399, 5.1-megapixel EX-S500 may be one of the thinnest zoom-lens-equipped digital cameras you can buy--just 0.6 inch front to back with its 3X zoom lens retracted. That makes it small enough to take with you almost anywhere. Casio offers this...

Ultra-thin body Lots of features, such as anti-shake

Images did not look very sharp

At home or in the office, the S500 perches on its small docking cradle, facing rearward. You can set it to display a calendar, with each day you took a photo represented by a small thumbnail image. Alternatively, you can arrange for it to run a...

Ultra-thin body ; Lots of features, such as anti-shake

This ultra-thin camera offers a lot of manual settings and features such as anti-shake, but its images didn't look so sharp.

Casio Exilim EX-S500 (gray) review

Casio Exilim EX-S500 (gray)

Tiny, attractive form factor; above-average feature set for its class; excellent selection of scene modes; ability to record and save 999 of your own Best Shot scene modes; solid performance.

Average image quality; above-average visual noise; antishake system appears to bump ISO (and noise) to unacceptable levels; no optical viewfinder.

This camera will make a great companion for snapshot photographers who like to travel light but don't want to make large prints.
