Fuji FinePix S3 Pro

The S3 Pro is, as you might expect a camera replete with professional specification features including up 1/4000sec shutter speed, Nikon F lens mount compatibility and both hot shoe and separate flash synch terminal for studio flash. You get 4...

The S3 Pro replaces the multi-award winning S2 Pro, a better body shape the improved handling, a built-in vertical grip and single battery use are all improvements as is the new sensor Super CCD SR II sensor.

Slower than I expected in use, the AF ‘hunts’ on some subjects and batteries still don’t last long enough and the best of the improved dynamic range only comes to the for using the CCD RAW format.

I've been in the fortunate position to have reviewed the S1 Pro, then this Digital-SLR's (D-SLR) predecessor, the S2 Pro (twice in fact, as I compared it to its peers (which it beat) a year later) and I then wrote the First Look article on the new, S3...

Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro review

Built like the proverbial tank, but with a touch of silk

Good dynamic range ; Smooth images ; Extremely well built

Confusing layout ; Takes AA batteries ; Very expensive

Smooth and silky images, but the FinePix S3 is expensive and a bit unwieldy for most people's tastes

Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro

The FinePix S3 is definitely a camera that will stay the course. If you're looking for a digital camera for sports or action photography look elsewhere, but if it's portraits or weddings you're into, then this could be the one

Good dynamic range, Smooth images, Extremely well built

Confusing layout, Takes AA batteries, Very expensive

Smooth and silky images, but the FinePix S3 is expensive and a bit unwieldy for most people's tastes

Best D-SLR Midrange: Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro

This third entry from Fujifilm in the domain of the digital SLR is certainly the best yet. While retaining the Nikon F-mount and the handling of the Nikon F80 film SLR, the FinePix S3 Pro offers a new Super CCD SR II sensor, with a total of 12.34...

Fuji FinePix S3 Pro

The S3 Pro looks overpriced compared to many of the D-SLRs appearing on the market now. But, while this is not a sports photographer's snapper, it offers uniqueness with its wide dynamic range thanks to the dual pixel layout. This makes it a real...

Nice design, improved handling, built-in vertical grip with single battery, new sensor Super CCD SR II

Slow, the AF ‘hunts’ on some subjects, batteries don’t last long enough, best of the dynamic range only comes into play using CCD RAW format

FinePix S3 Pro

Fuji's FinePix Pro series of digital SLRs has always trodden an independent path, but the new S3 Pro camera is the most radical yet. Its standout feature is the ability to capture an extended dynamic range compared to normal digital SLRs.

Mid-range Nikon-compatible digital SLR camera with innovative and very effective sensor that captures wide tonal range of highlights and shadows.

Relatively expensive. Won't capture 12million real image pixels. Fairly slow frame-rate and card-writing when shooting wide range.

While other camera makers concentrate on resolution, Fuji is to be commended for improving the tonal and colour characteristics of the FinePix S3 Pro. This really does pay off in real-world conditions outside the studio. However, it's almost twice as...
