Design and handling are great, the lens offers plenty of scope and the colour screen is small but (almost) perfectly formed.

The EVF is poor and the camera eats alkaline AA batteries faster than a swarm of locusts.

There is lots to like about the Fuji Finepix S5500. As well as its 10x optical zoom lens it also remains very ease to operate for this type of digital camera.

Affordable, compact and speedy. Takes bright, crisp, and well-exposed pictures. RAW support and an AF assist lamp.

Lacks important refinements, like antishake technology, a real-time histogram, and a hot shoe. Manual focus is inconvenient to use. Small (1.5-inch) LCD. Uses less common xD memory format. Charger and rechargeable batteries not included.
