Grado SR225 review

A no-nonsense approach to headphones

Neutral, with a well-extended bass

Not everyone will find them comfortable ; Sound takes getting used to

Tonally, this points the way to Grado's GS1000 flagship, but detail and soundstage are not truly class-leading

Grado SR225

Grado is a relatively small manufacturer that specialises in phono cartridges and headphones and makes a virtue of its no-nonsense approach. This extends to the aesthetics, which divides opinion amongst audiophiles.

Grado SR225e Headphone

Honest, accurate and unfatiguing sound, Well built, Usefully sensitive

Suitable for home use only, Not as comfortable as some rivals, Cord a little short

Should you buy the Grado? Taken as a whole, provided you understand how Grado sees their headphones being used and you dig their appearance, the 225e has to be seen as a successful update over what went before. There is nothing radically different to...

Sound I never thought I'd find in headphones

As the title suggests these headphones have shown me what spending a bit of money on headphones can yield. The openess of the music is the nicest suprise. After using a pair of Seinheisser PX200 headphones (which i thought were exceptional) these are...

REVEALING SOUND, SLIGHTLY FLAKY BUILD

I've owned a pair of these for some years now. They've always sounded great but both earpieces have required glue (and although I use them a lot I always handle them carefully), the foam pads have needed replacing because they sagged and fell off, and...

Good detail, excellent balance

Not amazingly comfortable, prone to fall apart

great sound and build quality ”

Overall, I've been very happy with these headphones since I bought them several years ago.The sound quality is amazing, especially if you prefer a leaner, less "bass-heavy" sound. When the bass is not jacked up, you lose the "thump" that tries to...

Grado 225's are heaven to my ears ”

Wow. that's all i can say. I put these headphones on and after getting used to the uncomfortablness, started playing the music. From there on it was pure bliss. These headphones generate that famous grado sound signature that makes it impossible for...

Grado SR225 Headphone

Slightly better than the SR80s, but not enough to warrant the extra outlay in my opinion. You get refinement and extension in the bass, more spacious soundstage and slightly smoother highs which undoubtedly result in a better headphone, but these are...

Grado SR225 Headphone

The SR225 was the gateway to the Grado line for me. Unlike many who would start off with the SR60, I know that first impressions are very important- thus I chose the middle of the lineup for auditioning. One get's the impression that Grados are...
