Kodak EasyShare Z650

A super-zoom Kodak at a bargain price, but not without compromises.

Kodak Easyshare Z650

Kodak Easyshare Z650 is a super zoom digital camera. It has six megapixels plus a ten times zoom lens. For the more experienced photographer it offers a range of manual exposure controls as well.

No red eye shows in indoor portrait ; Ease of use ; Low price

No image stabilisation

The Kodak Easyshare Z650 is a fairly solid option. Its ease of use makes it a good choice for anyone who is relatively new to photography and is looking for a camera with manual exposure controls and a long zoom lens.

Kodak EasyShare Z650

The Z650 is one of a trio of fresh new entries to Kodak's Z series of budget superzoom cameras. Sitting at the top of the range, its suggested retail price of 230 may not make it everyone's idea of a budget purchase, but a quick glance under the bonnet...

The Z650 comes equipped with a solid lens that yields a great overall imaging perfomance. It's user-friendly too, with easy-to-access features

Image quality degrades during close-up and maximum zoom shooting. Clunky operation lets the camera down

Despite a general lack of true style and panache both inside and out, the Z650 offers some impressive specs and an extremely favourable level of imaging prowess

Another day, another advanced digital camera. This is what it felt like when we got the Kodak Z650 into the office. Sure, it is big, has full advanc...

Big zoom, Sharp pictures

Poor colour representation, AA batteries

A decent advanced camera that really only has its 10X zoom as a point of differentiation.

Kodak EasyShare Z650 review

You'd expect Kodak to cut some corners with its budget-conscious superzoom, the EasyShare Z650, and you'd be right. Unlike the more expensive Kodak EasyShare Z612 , which includes a 12X optical zoom lens with optical image stabilization, the EasyShare...

Full manual exposure controls; 10X optical zoom.

No image stabilization; noticeable fringing and artifacts; ISO 800 not available at full resolution; no manual white balance or focus; choppy video.

This budget superzoom's price will garner interest, but the Kodak EasyShare Z650's performance and image quality will ward off enthusiasts.

Kodak EasyShare Z650 Review

Announced at CES in January 2006, the EasyShare Z650 replaces the Z740 at the top of the Kodak's affordable super zoom range, and offers a lower cost, lower specified alternative to the 'professional' P850. The changes over the previous model are...

Excellent color, generally very good exposure Versatile 38-380mm zoom range Very compact Good handling and easy access to most photographic controls Decent flash performance Good white balance in most situations Both screen and EVF work well in low...

Slightly soft images and lower than average resolution Some aspects of operation feel slow compared to competition Over-aggressive noise reduction at ISO 200+ (very soft ISO 400 images) Lack of image stabilization limits use of long end of zoom to...

When Kodak launched it's first 'SLR-like' super zoom, the DX6490, back in 2003 it was entering a much less crowded marketplace, and one where it held an ace up its sleeve; a highly competitive price point (and, to be fair, a comprehensive feature...

This budget superzoom's price will garner interest, but the Kodak EasyShare Z650's performance and image quality will ward off enthusiasts.

Full manual exposure controls ; 10x optical zoom

No image stabilisation ; Noticeable fringing and artifacts ; ISO 800 not available at full resolution ; No manual white balance or focus ; Choppy video

Casual snapshooters who need a long zoom lens might be happy with the Kodak EasyShare Z650, though if you plan on shooting in lower light, you'll likely want to look for a camera that has less noise at higher ISO, such as Canon's PowerShot S3 IS, or at...
