Kodak Z990 Max review

Kodak's Z990 Max bridge camera has an imposing lens on which is emblazoned its ability to shoot photos at up to 30x zoom with image stabilisation.

The huge zoom, comfy grip and attractive price tag will be enough to win the Kodak Z990 Max many fans, but if you want the advantages of an SLR-like camera then you’ll find a much better camera in the gimmick-free Fujifilm HS20.

Kodak Easyshare Max Z990 review

Kodak as we all know, have been around for a very long time, providing great affordable digital cameras to the masses, but they haven't often ventured into the what I would call 'Beginner photographer' market. By this I mean the Bridge...

The camera does a few things very well, but to do a few things very well doesn’t make it a very good camera by any means it is in my whole hearted opinion simply a basic beginner’s bridge camera with a price tag way too high.

Kodak Easyshare Max Z990 Review

Joshua Waller tests the ultra zoom Kodak Easyshare Max Z990 - with a 30x optical zoom lens can it deliver the goods?

Full HD video, stereo sound and optical zoom; High speed 9fps continuous shooting for 4 shots; Full manual controls and RAW support; Huge amount of zoom; Built in optical image stabilisation; Very good 3inch screen; Low noise upto ISO400

Screen overlay makes framing shots more difficult

Kodak EasyShare Max Z990

The Kodak EasyShare Max Z990 offers plenty of goodies including a long 30x zoom lens, manual controls, an electronic viewfinder, and 1080p video capture. But sluggish operation and poor low-light performance make this huge compact camera a tough sell.

Sharp images in good light. Huge, 30x zoom lens. Electronic viewfinder. Manual controls. Lots of art filters and sharing options. Shoots 1080p video.

Poor low-light performance. Very large for a compact camera. Slows down under heavy use. Autofocus was slow and unreliable in tests. Flimsy-feeling build.

You get plenty of in-camera art filters, which let you add neat effects to your photos right on the camera's display. There are also plenty of useful shooting modes, like Panorama, or HDR, which takes three shots at different exposure levels and then...

Kodak EasyShare Z990 Review

Following the runaway success of recent super-zoom cameras, Kodak are hoping to take a slice of the action with the introduction of the Easyshare Z990 “Max”. Complete with a Schneider Kreuznach 30x zoom lens, 12 megapixel CMOS sensor, full manual...

It's easy to say that the Z990 is arguably one of the best digital compact cameras that Kodak have released. The picture quality is excellent, we were extremely impressed with the tonal rendition and accuracy of colours. The new sensor seems to be...
