Nikon Coolpix P90

It's Nikon's first proper bridge camera this year, so can the P90 outgun its competitors?

The Nikon Coolpix P90 is a superb camera, certainly one of the best super-zoom bridge cameras on the market, with plenty to appeal to the enthusiast while still retaining some ease of use for the novice. It is attractively and sensibly designed,...

Nikon Coolpix P90 digital camera

The P90 takes on the typical format for superzoom models, with the large lens housing and viewfinder sitting to the right and a fairly chunky hand grip over to the right, with all the controls being pretty much reachable with the thumb or forefinger of...

Tilting screen, good performance at near end of the zoom, control options once out of auto, light weight

ISO noise, middle to far end zoom performance poor, buffering delays, electronic viewfinder

We got some great results without too much tinkering at the wider ends of the lens, with good sharp images and natural colour reproduction. The tilting screen is highly effective making it possible to grab great perspective shots without the normal...

Nikon Coolpix P90

The massive zoom range and articulated screen are highlights, but image quality is bettered elsewhere.

Nikon Coolpix P90 review

Given the propensity of so-called ultra-zooms to follow the basic DSLR layout, the slab-sided Nikon Coolpix P90 doesn't appear to attempt to blaze a trail. But the traditional layout and utilitarian design of this particular hybrid is deceptive.

Great features and excellent image quality make this a very good, if rather pricey, compact camera.

Nikon Coolpix P90 review

Let's start with the positives. Give the Nikon Coolpix P90 a perfect sunny day and nearby, colourful subjects and you'll be delighted with the images you end up with. Saturated colours are replicated brightly and there's a lot of detail in the 12Mp...

Given plenty of light, we were able to achieve bright, detailed shots with the Nikon Coolpix P90. We also liked its large LCD screen and innovative distortion correction and Best Shot Selector. We were less keen on the results when lighting conditions...

Nikon Coolpix P90

The most prominent feature this camera has is 12.1 megapixels for taking amazing pictures with. It is possible to take stunning prints of sizes up to 20 by 30 inches. With so many megapixels available, this enable you to take large, high quality photos...

Another great feature is the ability for high ISO capabilities. You can use up to ISO 6400 at 3 megapixel or lower resolution, ensuring great photos of sensitive subjects.

Nikon Coolpix P90

I like the pictures I took with this camera. To be honest when it comes to picture quality there is not a great deal to choose between the leading brands. This camera has a good range of features and is a good choice for the more serious hobby...

Colours - picture quality - features

Purple fringing can be an issue - taking more than one photo at a time can be slow

The Nikon Coolpix P90 offers a cheaper option to the top of the range Canon and Sony models. It does most things well, takes a good quality photo and has an impressive set of features.

Given the propensity of so-called ultra-zooms to follow the basic DSLR layout, the slab-sided Nikon Coolpix P90 doesn't appear to attempt to blaze a trail. But the traditional layout and utilitarian design of this particular hybrid is deceptive

But few of these niggles are likely to be real deal-breakers, as the usability of the Nikon Coolpix P90 is such a strong point. Only the high price tag is likely to count against it, so if you find one at a bargain price, you should seriously consider...

Nikon Coolpix P90 camera

The 12Mp Nikon Coolpix P90 upps the resolution and focal length of its predecessor, the 10Mp P80. The new model gains some interesting features, but unfortunately the basics let it down.
