Nikon S51c review

Nikon has crammed eight megapixels and Wi-Fi into its best-looking compact yet. Can the king of DSLRs crack the cut-throat world of the compact?

The S51c combines good looks, neat technology and quality images in one reasonably affordable package

Nikon Coolpix S51c review

A superslim compact, but one that's rather fiddly to master

Large LCD display ; Crisp, well balanced pictures

WiFi abilities essentially pointless ; Tiny controls can be fiddly ; Raised LCD picks up scratches ; Flash can be overbearing

Good size for a party, but lacks finesse and speed, and the WiFI is pretty much useless

Nikon Coolpix S51 8Mp digital camera

The Nikon Coolpix S51 is a lovely looking and stylish camera that combines 8.1 effective megapixels of imaging performance with a 3x zoom Nikkor ED lens.

If you can put up with an amazingly slow camera that you will need to recharge after each use, then the resulting pics are fine, well lit and sharp. Just make sure you don't try and snap any children, pets or anything with an attention span shorter...

Nikon Coolpix S51c (Silver) review

Why mess with a good thing? That seems to be Nikon's approach to its Wi-Fi-enabled ultracompact cameras. When they came out with the Coolpix S50c last year, I noticed that it was extremely similar to its predecessor, the S7c. Now, Nikon has made the...

Nice click wheel; sleek, slim design; supports wireless 802.11b/g photo e-mail via T-Mobile HotSpot and private access points; optical image stabilization.

The lack of a built-in browser prevents you from being able to access most free public Wi-Fi access points.

This latest version of Nikon's Wi-Fi camera captures nice images and lets you e-mail them straight from the camera via T-Mobile or private access points, but since it lacks a browser you can't gain access to most free Wi-Fi access points.

Nikon Coolpix S51c

Nikon's new compact camera has a Wi-Fi connection, so you can send snaps to the web in a flash.

This is a well-designed, compact camera that's capable of taking decent shots, especially if you're prepared to use its pre-programmed scene settings. It'll slip comfortably into your pocket, but if you are looking for a truly portable device, the...

Nikon Coolpix S51c

With a wave-form body design and Wi-Fi communications, the new Nikon CoolPix is like a lesson in particle physics, but with a sexy tutor rather than some old bloke with a beard.

8Mp resolution; Looks stylish; Big 3in LCD screen; One touch portrait mode; Wi-Fi connectivity; Rotating wheel; Fast burst mode; Images sharp; Optical lens shift VR; Noise well controlled at higher ISOs

ISO100 has noise

Nikon's CoolPix S51c offers a good option if you want to quickly and easily share photos with family and friends, however image quality aficionados maybe a little put off by the noise and slightly soft look of the shots.

Wireless connectivity, nice design

Some noise and sharpness issues, sluggish operation
