Nikon Coolpix S610 digital camera

It's been but a few sparse months since the Coolpix S600 passed through the test bay doors but when it did, it was the top-most camera in the Nikon Style range of compacts. Enter stage left the latest range of Style cameras from Nikon, the S610 forming...

Build and styling, image quality, easy to use, screen size, Image Stabilisation

Starts quickly but otherwise not as fast as Nikon claim, no manual modes, slow AF, menu use

Overall then, the Coolpix S610 is a mixed bag, superb image quality and clever kit disguised by a deceptively simple design, but the whole in this case is not quite the sum of its parts.

Nikon CoolPix S610 review

When high-quality compact cameras are available for just £100, models that cost twice as much struggle to justify their existence.

Nikon Coolpix S610

The Nikon Coolpix S610 is a 10 megapixel digital camera with a wide angle, 4x optical zoom lens. In terms of size the Coolpix S610 is 22.5mm, so you should have little trouble fitting it into a pocket. David Tymon from Cameras.co.uk has reviewed.

Nikon Coolpix S610

The Nikon Coolpix S610 is a pocket digital camera. It has 10 megapixels and a 4x optical zoom lens. The lens is wide angle. This camera has one of the fastest start up times going. It also has a large 3 inch LCD screen and image stabilisation.

Photographing distant scenes

I was impressed by the photos I took when the subject was relatively close to the camera, but more distant scenes proved to be more of a problem. The Coolpix S610 has a very fast start up time and is also easy to use.

Nikon COOLPIX S610

The COOLPIX S610, one of four new entries in Nikon's ‘Style' range with an all-metal design that meets advanced features and super-fast start-up

Like the S600 before it, an impressive set of features is somewhat undermined but an otherwise lacklustre performance, despite a fast start-up. Image quality is better than the S600's, though, and, at the end of the day, that's what counts, making it...

Nikon CoolPix S610c

10-megapixel camera with built-in Wi-Fi.

Wireless connectivity, good colour balance, incredibly fast start-up time

High levels of chromatic aberration, high shutter lag and slow shot-to-shot time, slow wireless transfers

Nikon's CoolPix S610c is a solid compact camera with a few notable problems. It takes fairly good snaps and has wireless connectivity; however, uploading photos can be slow. The camera itself is incredibly slow at times, which makes for a frustrating...

Nikon CoolPix S610

Compact camera with 28mm wide-angle lens.

Good colour balance, wide-angle lens, 4x optical zoom with stabilisation, lightning quick start-up time

Extremely slow shot-to-shot time and shutter lag, chromatic aberration issues

Nikon's CoolPix S610 would have been quite an impressive unit if it wasn't for its extremely slow shutter speed and shot-to-shot lag. As it stands it still captures fairly good snaps and has some nifty features, but can be irritatingly slow at times.
