Nikon D7100

Is the new Nikon D7100 the perfect replacement for the popular D7000?

Excellent LCD screen, Reliable and accurate auto white balance, Handles well

Locking buttons are fiddly, Slow processing times, Burst mode only so-so

Nikon D7100 review

Does the Nikon D7100 digital SLR live up to its billing as an enthusiast's dream?

Weather resistant build ; Top plate LCD window ; 51 auto focus points

Non vari-angle LCD ; Expensive ; No great jump in detail

Nikon D7100

Cameras are evolving. The Nikon D7100 is testament to that - it not only employs enough top specs to rival even the well-established D300S from Nikon's own range but, and much like the Nikon D800E, has removed the low-pass filter from its imaging...

Good picture quality, decent sharpness when on point, often great autofocus system for all conditions, 100 per cent viewfinder with focus feedback, 1.3x crop mode (also works for raw capture), long-lasting battery life, improved LCD screen...

Banding present in shadow areas (as per D5200), occasionally inaccurate autofocus, focus wouldn't always confirm, no touchscreen or vari-angle mount for LCD, burst mode doesn't live up to its on-paper specification, effects modes should be more expansive

There's a lot to love about the D7100: comprehensive 51-point autofocus - despite the occasional non-focus glitch - is great to use through the large, 100 per cent optical viewfinder and we're big fans of the new 1.3x crop mode too.

Nikon D7100 review

Superseded by the D7200 but still on sale, the Nikon D7100 now looks a good value buy

High resolution ; 6/7fps continuous shooting ; Weather-sealed body

No Wi-Fi built-in ; Limited buffer capacity ; Superseded by D7200

The D7100 is still on sale alongside the newer D7200 and it's a good deal cheaper. It lags behind in a couple of respects, notably buffer capacity, Wi-Fi and movie options, but the D7100's still image quality and features are still a close match for...

Nikon D7100 review

Nikon D7100 review

Given the build quality and feature set of the Nikon D7100, I would be surprised if the much-rumoured D400 will ever materialise to replace the D300S. Instead, it looks as though the D7100 may do the job of fully replacing both the D7000 and D300S. The...
