Olympus C-700 UZ Review

The C-700UZ came to the market as a surprise announcement (to those who didn't already know) made almost exactly a month after PMA 2001. The C-700UZ is a 2 megapixel digital camera with a 10x optical zoom lens built into a relatively compact case.

Good colour, good metering, good to average resolution Good white balance even under artificial light Compact size (especially considering 10x lens) Large range of manual controls, aperture/shutter priority exposures and manual White balance manual...

Highly visible chromatic aberrations in sunny daylight shots Moiré at line frequencies between 900 and 1300 lines per picture height Visible barrel distortion at wide angle No image stabilization No AF assist lamp Lots of "hot pixels" in long exposure...

Olympus C-700 Ultra Zoom Digital Camera Review: Intro and Highlights

For several years now, Olympus has been a dominant player in the digicam marketplace. It boasts one of the broadest digital camera lineups in the industry, with numerous models ranging from pure entry-level, point-and-shoot digicams to the incredible...

Throughout our testing, the C-700 produced great color, with accurate saturation and tone. The C-700's white balance system handled most of our lighting situations well, though we often noticed that the manual setting produced less than accurate...

Olympus C-700 Ultra Zoom

As the resolution of digital cameras has started to level out in recent months, camera manufacturers have found other ways to make their products stand out. One way in which they are doing so is selling cameras with large zoom lenses: case in point,...

Holy smokes - 10X optical zoom for about $600 street ; Very good photo quality in most cases ; New, customizable menu system (though it takes getting used to) ; Manual white balance ; Support for external flash ; Compact, good looking body ; Movies...

No optical zoom in movie mode ; Chromatic aberrations noticeable in several photos ; Playback mode could use some more features ; Placement of OK/Menu button ; No rechargeable batteries included

How does it compare with the more expensive C-2100 Ultra Zoom? Very favorably, in this reviewers opinion. The major differences are the lack of image stabilization, a few bundled features, and about $200 in cash. You may have to use a tripod for some...

Great value for the price, but there are better models out there...

After my parents and brother had success in making the transition from film to digital photography with Olympus products, I purchased a C-700. It was a daunting change for a lifelong user of 35-mm SLR cameras, but within a couple of weeks I was glad I ...
