Olympus E-30 review

Serious mid-range player or a bit of a gimmick?

Swivel screen ; Packed with features

Doesn't push the pixel count ; Heavy

This is a great upgrade for existing Olympus E-series users. Those who are more interested in pixel peeping and cheap lenses may not like it. But if you enjoy creative photography then the Olympus E-30 is great camera that deserves a closer inspection.

Olympus E-30 review

Its foundation comprises a sturdy body design that feels comfortable in the hand; a swing-out 2.7-inch LCD, 12.3-megapixel image sensor (providing plenty of resolution for 13-by-19-inch prints); and sensor-based image stabilisation. The Olympus E-30...

In terms of image quality, performance, features, and design, the Olympus E-30 stacks up well against other digital SLRs in its price range. Its creative features are a plus, and we very much liked having the swing-out LCD screen. We were a little...

Olympus E-30 Review

Olympus has re-entered the highly competitive enthusiast/semi-pro sector of the market with the release of its E-30. With a resolution of 12.3-million pixels, it offers more megapixels than any other model in its E-series system – although Olympus will...

Olympus has certainly endeavoured to put as much on the body as possible, with a selection of buttons on the top and several more on the rear. The top-plate boasts an exposure dial on the left and a decent information LCD panel on the right side. While...

How does the latest four thirds addition fit into the enthusiast DSLR market?

Olympus E-30

With the introduction of the E-30 DSLR, Olympus continues to carve its own path based on the Four Thirds sensor format. Packing a new 12-megapixel Live-Mos imager as well as many of the features of the top-of-the-range E-3 - including an 11-point AF...

Noise levels aren't quite as low as in images from the D90, either, and at ISO800 and above, the E-30 struggles to match the 15-megapixel EOS 50D, let alone compete with the similar pixel count of the D90

The new Olympus E-30 digital single-lens reflex camera (SLR) from Olympus combines a solid feature set with a truly creative personality.

In terms of image quality, performance, features, and design, the Olympus E-30 stacks up well against other digital SLRs in its price range. Its creative features are a plus, and we very much liked having the swing-out LCD screen. We were a little...

Olympus E-30

Olympus joins the mid-range DSLR battle, but does the E-30 have what it takes to beat the competition?

The E-30 is a very capable camera and a worthy upgrade from the E-520 that will serve advanced enthusiasts well. The less-than-rugged build keeps it from seeing off the competition.
