Olympus PEN E-P5 review

Could this be the best Olympus camera to date?

Fantastic screen ; Lots of art filters ; Built-in Wi-Fi ; 1/8000 sec shutter speed

No built-in viewfinder ; Limited remote shooting ; Kit lens a little disappointing

We have not been disappointed by image quality from this camera, it matches the OM-D E-M5 in terms of detail and vibrance. The E-P5 is also well suited to shooting a wide range subjects.

Image stabilisation system emits a hum, continuous autofocus not up to a DSLR standard, pricey, flash release often pressed by accident, Wi-Fi QR code app flawed, 2x2 dial not customisable, focus peaking ought to offer more colours, would like AF/MF...

Big price equates to big things: the E-P5 is one of the best compact system cameras we've yet tested. But it's not quite perfection.

Olympus E-P5 review - Modelled on the Pen F but with a tilting touch screen and Wi-Fi to add modernity

The chassis of the E-P5 is closely modelled on the Pen F which gave rise to the famous Olympus Trip. Yet a tilting touch screen and Wi-Fi adds modernity

Attractive retro styling and solid feel build, large and high resolution tilting rear LCD screen affords lots of compositional choice

Surprisingly pricey on launch, no eye-level viewfinder provided in the ‘basic’ kit, more advanced albeit older OM-D E-M5 from Olympus now offers better value

Like others here on the E-P5 there are a plethora of digital effects filters to choose from for both photos and motion images, which provide added pep in dull conditions. Otherwise if conditions aren’t perfect, some shots straight from the camera...
