Olympus Mju 700 digital camera

Olympus goes for another slice of the ultra-compact digital camera market with its new, wedge shaped Mju 700, a weatherproof and very stylish high resolution camera with plenty to shout about.

Great build, small and stylish, easy to handle, great metering and weatherproofing, good range of features

Noise in shadow areas, slight image softness, barrel distortion

Being very critical, image softness and slight lens/optical performance problems reduce captured detail. However, prints up to around 10x8 inches won't show most of these image problems and the camera's many great shooting features easily outweigh...

Olympus Mju 700 review

A lightweight offering with extra resolution up its sleeve

7Mp resolution helps with zoom

Image quality not the best

A decent enough camera but can't compete with the real big-hitters

Olympus mju 700

The mju 700 is the latest in Olympus' range of compact, no-fuss digital cameras, designed for beginners. Like Fuji's compact Z2, the mju 700 can shoot at high sensitivity in low light without flash to capture natural ambience. It's attractively priced,...

The mju 700 is by no means a bad camera, but it doesn't perform as well as it should. It's reasonably priced and if you need an easy-to-carry camera that copes well in low light, this could be the one for you.

Olympus MJU 700

The only weatherproof range of digital cameras I have tested is the Olympus MJU range. Aside from its protective outer shell the MJU 700 is a fairly straightforward digital camera.

In camera guide ; Weatherproof ; Style and design

Picture quality

As much as I like the design and innovations of the Olympus MJU 700 I am left disappointed by the camera. This is really down to the overall picture quality where I have a number of issues. It is a shame as there are few weatherproof cameras around.

Olympus mju 700

Though not without its faults, the mju 700 is at the better end of the 7MP market. Images are good and the extended sensitivity is useful. In other ways the features are average, but the camera is stylish and portable and has weatherproofing, making it...

Nice design, Good ISO range, Colour and exposure, Weatherproofing, Range of different colours available

Loose and easily moved mode wheel, No optical viewfinder, Noise at higher ISO range

Though not without its faults, the mju 700 is at the better end of the 7MP market. Images are good and the extended sensitivity is useful. In other ways the features are average, but the camera is stylish and portable and has weatherproofing, making it...

Olympus Mju 700

Strong, slick and waterproof the mju 700 looks great and is easy to use. A take anywhere camera for the style-conscious amateur. Its praise worthy and had the mjus few flaws been fixed it could have made a great camera for the more experienced. However...

Review: Olympus Mju 700

Olympus break the mould with their cute wedge shape that will fit your hand perfectly ? but with cute cameras coming out every week what is the performance like?

DDesign and build quality, weather proof body, guide mode

Struggles in low light, screen can be hard to see when it's sunny, occasional odd decisions in auto

Despite having a clear layout and some great touches such as the guide mode, I found the camera a little hard to get to grips with. The image stabilisation would really be better if you could turn it on with just a button rather than entering a special...

Olympus MJU 700

Olympus' latest range of cameras has generated mixed results for us. We loved the [[prodid:1755]] for its tough design and rugged features, but the [[...

Great burst mode, Sharp pictures, Low noise

Colours not spot on

If you need a powerful sensor in a small body, or take a lot of photography in fast moving situations, the MJU 700 is probably for you.

Olympus Stylus 710

Included Memory: On Board, Media Format: xD-Picture Card, Type: Ultracompact, Maximum Resolution: 3072 x 2304 pixel...

Very portable. Light weight. Guide mode lets you quickly change settings. Stylish design.

Performance and picture quality just mediocre. Some shutter lag. Subpar video capabilities.

The Olympus Stylus 710 is a stylish package that needs better performance and picture quality.
