Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38

We've got an early review of the replacement for the Lumix DMC-FZ28, the Lumix DMC-FZ38.

Superb image quality ; 28x zoom (27-486mm) lens ; Manual controls ; Electronic viewfinder ; HD video with stereo sound

Still not close to SLR quality ; Slightly slow operation ; Not enough of an improvement

My verdict on the FZ38 is pretty much the same as for its predecessor. If you've already got an FZ28 it's probably not enough of an improvement to justify an upgrade. However for anyone else looking for a new super-zoom camera they really don't come...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38 review

Pointlessly high resolution aside, the FZ38 maintains Panasonic's lead in the ultra-zoom camera market

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 review

If you can deal with slightly grainy, non-1080p video footage (the FZ35's video resolution maxes out at 720p), the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 may be the ideal hybrid model to serve double-duty as a camera and camcorder.

It's no video-shooting DSLR, but the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 is the best fixed-lens option we've seen yet as a hybrid camera for both stills and video. This camera is a viable replacement for a camcorder, and a top pick for anyone seeking a...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38

A fine camera and a fair price. You can't argue, really………

As a super-zoom camera, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38 is up there with the best, offering good quality images, adaptability, a creative feature set and excellent video performance, which should provide beginners or intermediates with some excellent...

Panasonic Lumix FZ38

A bridge-style camera that's capable of shooting 12.1MP stills and capturing 720p high-definition movies – it's even got an HDMI output for connecting to an HD telly. The powerful 27mm wideangle Leica lens is complemented by an 18x optical zoom and...

Superb still images, clever design and high-quality video mark the FZ38 as a bridge camera with potential but its low-light results and slightly slow response times do irritate. Panasonic Lumix FZ38 is tagged with camera, Panasonic and Lumix. Select a...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38

Lightweight shooting, heavyweight performance?

With no major advances in specs or appearances, the FZ38 fails to significantly raise the bar in bridge cameras.

Panasonic DMC FZ38

The Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ38 is a super zoom digital camera with plenty of features for stills photography. It also has a very advanced movie mode. I found picture quality to be very impressive. The camera is also able to respond quickly to photo...

Picture quality - advanced features - shutter lag times - -advanced movie mode with stereo sound

Nothing stands out

I really like the Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ38. Sometimes you just hit it off with a camera and that seems to be the case here. I am very happy with the pictures I took with it and it stands up very well against other super zoom cameras.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38 review

The Panasonic Lumix FZ38 – or FZ35K as it's known in the US – is the newest model in the FZ line. Updating the previous FZ28 model, does the FZ38 offer enough additions to make you part with your...

Fully manual controls, POWER O.I.S, 720p movie (AVCHD Lite), lens quality and 18x 27-486mm optical zoom range, among the best current superzoom compacts on the market

High ISO and low light performance, relatively minor upgrades from previous FZ28 model

The Panasonic Lumix FZ38 is a top-performing superzoom compact at an affordable price point. In fact, for the money, you’d be stretched to find any better. The lens is great, as are the controls, and the overall feature set – including a wide-ranging...
