Panasonic CM1

Could this be the best phone camera?

Class-leading images ; Handy manual controls ; Shoots RAW

No OIS ; Very expensive ; Feels a little cheap in parts

There’s also a flick switch on the side – or the top plate if we’re looking at the CM1 as a camera – that takes you instantly to the camera app. Plenty of phones offer quick ways to get to the camera, but with the Panasonic CM1 there’s a pleasing...

Panasonic CM1 review

Panasonic says the CM1 is a camera with a phone, not a phone with a camera – and we can see why

Large 20-megapixel 1-inch sensor ; Full manual control ; Android 4.4 and 2GB memory

No zoom lens ; Tricky to hold securely ; Expensive

The Panasonic CM1 is impressive, even judged solely as a camera. Who wouldn't want a high-end compact with a 1-inch sensor that will go in a shirt pocket? On top of that, it's a decent Android smartphone too.

Hands-on: Panasonic Lumix CM1 review: Is it a camera, is it a phone? It's a bit of both - Pocket-lint

When we first heard the rumour that Panasonic was going back into the phone business we didn't think it could be true. But, sure enough, at Photokina 2014

Panasonic Lumix CM1 review

Is it a phone? A camera? It's both – but is it greater than the sum of its parts?

Has a better camera than most smartphones ; Has a better screen than most cameras

Very expensive ; No optical image stabilisation ; Chunky and heavy for a phone

A jack of all trades and a master of none, this intriguing hybrid is a valiant attempt – but not quite the do-it-all device we want

Panasonic Lumix CM1 review: The camera phone for the truly committed mobile photographer

The Panasonic Lumix CM1 aims to be the pinnacle of smartphone photography thanks to its huge image sensor, raw image shooting and full manual controls.

The Panasonic Lumix CM1 has a huge image sensor that helps it capture stunning photos, it shoots images in raw format, it's well-built, looks great and has the internal specs to rival most top-end smartphones.

It's far from cheap, it's running an older version of Android, it's quite bulky for everyday use and its raw format images can't be used with most Android apps.

While the Panasonic Lumix CM1 is undeniably pricey and bulky, its wealth of photography kit helps it achieve image quality that's unrivalled in the smartphone world. If you love the idea of always having a great camera to hand but don't want to be...

Panasonic Lumix CM1 review

When is a phone not a phone? When it's a camera of course! Panasonic's Lumix camera range has a new addition in the shape of the CM1 Android smartphone , which has all the tools of a quality camera grafted onto a high-end phone.

Great camera, HD screen, high-performance processor, expandable memory

Bulky and heavy, 4K video shooting not perfect, expensive

The Panasonic Lumix CM1 is a perfectly decent mid-range camera with high-end smartphone functionality included. It's on the bulky side, it's certainly not cheap, and it's very much aimed at a niche audience. If you really only want to carry one device,...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 Camera Phone Review

Reviewed: The Panasonic Lumix CM1 Smart Phone, a serious compact camera in a smartphone.

10fps continuous shooting ; 1inch sensor ; Leica f/2.8 lens ; MicroSD slot ; Dedicated shutter release button ; Control ring around lens ; 4.7inch touch-screen

4K video only recorded at 15fps ; Chunky / larger than most smartphones ; Optical image stabilisation would be nice ; LED flash ; High price

The Panasonic Lumix CM1 is very difficult to compare to other smartphones, and is even difficult to compare with other smartphone / camera crossovers such as the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom, as the CM1 has such a large sensor (and no optical zoom). The price...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 (Unlocked)

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 is a peerless smartphone when it comes to imaging, but photographers willing to carry two devices can find a better pocket camera for less money.

Best smartphone camera available. Runs stock Android 4.4. 1-inch image sensor with 28mm f/2.8 prime lens. Captures JPG and Raw images. Lens control ring. 4G LTE connectivity on AT&T and T-Mobile. Android Lollipop upgrade available.

Expensive. 4K video limited to 15fps. Weak LED flash. Thicker than most smartphones. Screen could be brighter. So-so call quality.

Conclusions If you're an Android fan, a photo enthusiast, and want to have the best possible smartphone camera in your pocket at all times, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 is the obvious choice. While its CPU performance isn't quite up to snuff with the...
