Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 digital camera

The minimal, flat fronted design and internally stacked/folded zoom lens mechanism of Panasonic's 12.1 effective megapixel Lumix DMC-FP8 may be a claimed bold departure for the electronics manufacturer's range of otherwise conventionally styled digital...

User-friendly set up and operational menus, fast and responsive, for the most part a reliable snapper. Robust mainly metal construction and 4.6x optical zoom range goes some way toward justifying price tag

Optical zoom disabled when shooting video, not Full HD movies, positioning of lens means that finger tips can creep into shot, noise visible at ISO 400 and above

Despite our reservations about some aspects of the FP8's functionality, outdoors with plenty of light around the camera is able to pick up a fair amount of detail and deliver crisp, sharply focused results. Indoors, switch off the flash to avoid giving...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 review

The FP8's aluminium body is slim, stylish and reassuringly tough. We love the red finish, but it's also available in black or silver.

With a sleek design, fast performance, some great features including 720p video and a low price, we could live with the unremarkable image quality.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 review

The 12-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 has a boxy but stylish frame, made out of metal and seemingly impervious to anyone with a mild case of fumble-itis. However, though the camera build is durable, the 4.6x-optical-zoom wide-angle lens (28mm to...

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 is a durable, stylish point-and-shoot camera that performs well. The ultraquiet lens and fast autofocus are huge draws, but the lens placement and controls may annoy some people.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8

Flat fronted fully auto snapper with illuminated buttons

Glowing buttons and aluminium build aside the FP8 offers a fairly standard feature set at a premium price. But despite there being little here that's truly new, Panasonic has introduced another reliable performer to the Lumix range.

Panasonic DMC FP8

There is plenty to like about the Lumix DMC FP8. It has very fast start up times, minimal shutter delay and takes a good quality snap shot. It has a High Definition movie mode which allows zoom to be applied while recording. All in all it is a very...

Picture quality - ease of use - fast start up time - advanced movie mode - minimal shutter lag delay

Nothing really stands out

If you are looking for a pocket camera the Panasonic Lumix DMC FP8 is well worth considering. It offers a quick response and takes good quality photos in most situations. I found very little to put me off this camera and plenty of plus points.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 digital camera

Panasonic's Lumix DMC-FP8 is solid and stylish but has some design quirks

Superior battery life, very fast and quiet wide-angle zoom lens, durable frame

No lens cover, lens placement is awkward for two-handed shots

Though the lens placement and button layout take some getting used to, the boxy and durable Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 offers a quiet and quick wide-angle lens.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 review

Looking at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 you wouldn't think there's anything special about it; you'd think it's just another ultracompact point-and-shoot. To some extent that's true, but it actually attempts to address a common complaint plaguing most...

Small and lightweight; fast start-up and low shutter lag in good lighting; simple operation; great battery life.

Overcautious auto ISO; internal lens leads to fingers in shots; photos look slightly overprocessed.

The Lumix DMC-FP8 lives up to Panasonic's speedy performance claims; its photo quality isn't bad, either.
